Default Boat pulling 4WD questions

Hey,

Now what im askin is how will an F6-X do with pulling

Ours is actually bigger, by about 2 feet(23feet). I'm assuming it would be around 2 tonne, 2.5 maybe?
Currently we're using a V6 100 series Landcruiser to tow it but dads gotta get rid of it for tax purposes and he's lookin at a new Landcruiser Sahara - but its over 120k..very nice inside, great V8, but.. its just so much money - and its also imo the ugliest car on the market today.. and i'd rather convince him to sell the land cruiser and the XR6T and get a F6-X and an F6 too for around the same price.

so how does the F6-X go with towing? Are there any problems that can arise from it towing a 2+ tonne boat? im sure the brakes(the big ol'
brembo's) would be fine but what about the turbo?

Meh, the turbo will handle it with ease. Tell him to do it.

I would ask in the Terry forums what the towing capacity of the chassis is, the engine will do it no probs.

Without knowing the actual weight of that boat, my guess is it will be way over the legal towing limit of the F6X. Even if you did use it to tow it would drink like a fish with that much weight on.

I'll be towing a 20ft. caravan and I also have a 19ft. skiboat with mine. The van comes in at around 2100kg all up with gear and water. That leaves little margin up to the max rated towing capacity, which is 2300kg.

I'd suggest a different tow car.

A V8 Discovery3 would tow it with ease, as would a Prado.

There are many cars that could be used as a tow machine, but if you want luxury, you can't go past a Discovery. They have the Falcons ZF behind them, and aren't as badly built as they used to be.

By the way, what's a V6 Land Cruiser (not Prado). Last time I looked, there was no such thing.

It's a 100 series, probably 10 years old now, we got it second hand at the time for really cheap and its been a dream since! still nothin wrong with it either, except the transfer case is leaking heavily.. but its cheaper to just top it up every week lol

mmm ill see if i can find out the exact weight of the boat, the trailer would be a good 600kg's i reckon

IIRC, 100 series Land Cruisers never had a V6, they had a Inline 6, and a V8 (Plus the obligatory diesels)

Seriously though, For me a Disco 3 would do the job as a more stylish and slightly cheaper alternative to the Land Cruiser, It will also cost less to run.

That said though, if the weight of the boat/ trailer combined comes in under 2200Kg (That gives you a little bit if a buffer form the 2300Kg limit) Go the Twin F6s, That sounds to me like a sweet garage lineup.

yeah the F6/F6-X would be a sexy line up maybe i was just hoping too much lol, seems like my dreams are smashed(not that i would have been able to drive either anyway)

Oh its a I6? i always thought it was a V, my mistake.

I just really dont want him to get the new landcruiser.. theyre just soooo butt ugly and stiff inside.. the lexus versions are even worse! I'll see if i can sway him away from the landcruiser, the Disco's are nice cars, fairly roomy etc.

regardless of the towing capacity, the underside of the Terri and Falcons for that matter are painted sparingly at best. I sure wouldn't want to be dunking it into water launching a boat.

Well considering the FPV F6-x isn't really built as a workhorse with towing in mind, I'd be looking at a diesel vehicle, and IMO the Toyota's are top of the list for me, but that's just me.

More than anything I think the Landcruiser (200 series) is really really overpiced.

I thought you said 4WD ..... nah should do it with ease, my uncle is using a standard terry to pull his 26 foot play toy does it well, so turbo will be fine

For serious towing, GU patrol 4.2 Turbo Disesel!

Thats if you can find 1 for sale!!! they good for up to 3.5T
I would wait on the 200's Cruiser still alot of dramas with them!

AS said your probly on the limit of ford so until you know the exact weight of the boat and make sure its under the limit then stick to a decent tow vehicle!

From what Ive herd you will be waiting a while if you want a 200 series, Toyota have a big backlog to get through.

You would want a 4wd with that much weight at a boat ramp..
They are slippery enough at the best of times..
With a good extendable draw bar on trailer the cars wheels shouldn't be anywhere near water.. The weight of Falcon could be a little too light legality ??
My brother has had a good run with Nissan Patrol turbo diesel..
The Terri comes in 4wd..

Have a look around at a few AU quarter panels.
You will notice the ones with tow bars have a slight.......
I guess you'd call it a buckle. It was pointed out to me on
mine by a panel beater and look at all I see now and they all
the same if they have towed e series did the same.
So wat would concern me more will the body and chassis hold
up to it or will it stretch as previous ford models have??

If it was me I would skip the terry and buy a cruiser.
Nothings as tough as a Toyota 4wd.

You know, I always thought a couple of my Fords looked a bit droopy in the rear quarters... Funny how it was the two the the Hayman Reece hitch... I did do a LOT of heavy towing back then though. Interesting call.

It blew me away. Wayne was 10 ft from the car looking from the front
and said "it has a towbar I see". Take notice as you walk past em
where the (for lack of better wording) the rear pillar comes down and
joins quarter you can see it clear as day. In saying that you would never
know unless you knew if that makes sense.

Thats pretty interesting. I just had to go look at our ED XR8 which did alot of towing our 19ft caravan. Still straight as the day it left the factory : . Now that you have mentioned it I will be keeping an eye out on other cars.

Edit: Another vote for F-250.

I'll try on the weekend.
Don't know how well it will show up on photo but
will def give it ago for ya's. Funny thing is after I found out
I remembered the XR8 I had from almost new a few years
back and it always looked strange.
Previous owner had it to pull a horse float but sold it
within 5 months from new because it couldn't handle the weight.
I guess what he ment to say was the weight was tearing the car
apart.....lol
