Cool man, just making sure he wasn't missing out.

My new years resolution? Go back to owning a modern car. When I got my AU when it was only five or six years old, it was modern. I miss that modernness.

Fixing the AU's diff and either selling it / swapping it for an old school cruiser, or a BIG rebuild and keep it..

You know, I relate to the sentiment.

My AU is the oldest car I've had for many years. Prior to buying it I'd keep cars for 3 -4 years. Then I started playing with it (the car) and it made it easier to keep for a bit longer.

As I said elsewhere, I thought that a natural progression would be to a BA or BF. I had the the use of a BF2 XR6 for a week and although the extra bit of grunt and improved fuel consumption was nice, the car left me cold. AU's might be lots of things but they're not "beige". The BF had an interior only a mother could love and a seating position that beggars belief.

The guy who "owns" (via salary sacrifice) the BF2 also didn't like it. He was hanging out for his two year "penalty" to be up so that he could move on to an FG. He had the use of an FG for a couple of months while Ford were trying to find a tailshaft for his BF and is so impressed with FG's that this time round he's opted for a VE (after 30 years of owning Fords).

So, that leaves me sort of out of the running. I actually like VE Clubsports but for the driving I do it doesn't make any economic sense.

Perhaps I'll rationalise it and think of my hands-on AU experience as a "blip" on the radar. It'll make a return to Ford or Holden "beige" easier to take and will clear a bit of stuff out of the shed.
I'm not sure if that's "win, win" but it doesn't seem like it, lol.

But yes, I agree with you that something a bit more modern would be nice... maybe ;)

I'm with ya ronwest. When I got my AU it was my plan to keep it for 3 years and move up to an up-to-date model. There's a mammoth improvement from the EL to the AU, and i naively expected there to be the same sort of improvement from AU to BA. But there's not, for the reasons you stated. They're just plain boring. So i've been hanging out for flaming donkeys for the FG to get to be the right price. But now Mrs Hardware is nudging that she'd prefer an Aurion....

Mechanical overhaul - as you'll see in my thread in the project section
doing some minor things today

getting a custom interior trimming in mid year by fussy customs
mostly doing it because my drivers seat foam is tired and needs new foam in it
want to get the centre part of the dash and centre console area done in galaxy blue with vinyl not plastic

mate to me there is only one choice. stick with the AU.
reasons

cant be bothered sorting problems put on another car as ive gotten used to the probs of the au.

2. to old to be spending cash on more cars.

3. the missus will tie my hmmmmm up.

4. in my eyes there is no intirior better than the AU'S

NEW resolution dont turn 15 3 times.
