WT Diesel RPM

Heya FF,

I'm pretty keen on WT Diesel Fez and have a few questiona's for all you Oil Burners.
Firstly i'd like to know how many RPMs it is twisting at 100 - 110 km/h? What's it like as a city run about - IE can it get going at the lights when needed and handle a quick squirt in third to jump in to a gap in traffic on a busy road?
What's your fuel usage with suburban driving?

We can answer part of the question using simple mathematics.

The WT manual has a 5th gear ratio of .76 and a final drive ratio of 3.37:1 - (except the Econetic which has a final drive ratio of 3.05:1) thus with the 185/55x15 tyre package it will be doing around 2325 rpm at 100km/h and 2558 at 110 km/h.

The Econetic will be doing around 2105 @ 100 km/h and 2315 @ 110 km/h.

Thanks to russellw for nutting out the calcs for the RPM. I found the equation but I am unsure of what units to use. Would you mind exlaining.

From wiki:
It is possible to determine a car’s speed from the engine speed by multiplying the circumference of the tire by the engine speed and dividing by the combined gear ratio.

Wow fairly high for a diesel, surprised it can do such good fuel economy figures that it can.

Surely the diesel would have a different ratio manual, taller?

Gday,

We just bought a manual Zetec diesel a couple of weeks ago and find it bloody brilliant. Heaps of get up and go and plenty of pulling power from 1500rpm. sits on 2300rpm at 100kmh. Got the fuel consumption down to 4.4 on the hwy with a full sized spare wheel and a passenger.. After having a loan of a zetec automatic petrol (car in for service) I'm soooo happy we didnt get a petrol as the diesel out performs it in every way.. Also we think the diesel would be fantastic around town too.

The petrol sat on 3000rpm at 100kmh revving its little titties out lol and dropped down to 2nd gear and 4000+ rpm at the faintest hint of a hill on cruise control. Very annoying. The diesel cruises up all the hills between Brisbane and Gatton in 5th gear without hesitation and a little extra still if needed.

Hey mate. We have driven a lowered BA Falcon, an XR8 BF ute and a Toyota Landcruiser 80 series up and down that road and those hills and the Fiesta is by far the smoothest of them all. No worries getting up the Minden and Marburg hills - 5th gear at 105km/hr plus and still a little left if you put your foot down. We were very impressed. The little auto petrol fiesta we had last week when the diesel was in at Ford insisted on changing back to second up those hills and any other little incline. Ended up putting it over in sports shift and holding it in 4th gear to stop it changing up and down and up and down just trying to maintain 100km/hr!

Looking foward to that Minden single lane section opening hey!! I think we're just waiting on a bit more guard rail to finish it off. Coppers have been patroling it quite a bit lately.

Mine is the Zetec so its a hatch.. Zetec only comes in a hatch here in the land of oz

Not strictly true... There is someone on here who has a Zetec sedan, one of a handful apparently mistakenly ordered.

It says LX, but it's a Zetec. Maybe they don't have an option for Zetec sedan on carsales.

Yes but its not a diesel.... As they did not make a Zetec diesel for us Australians untill 2011

Was that on the trip computer or at the pump?

There can easily be quite a difference. Most trip computers seem to run between 4% and 10% optimistic.

Yer that's on the Trip computer.. We are currently getting 900km give or take 50km depending on traffic out of a tank witch is 40 liters

Note that there are different suspension setups between the CL/LX and WT Zetec. The Zetec gets stiffer 'sports' suspension like the previous WP/WQ models did.
