So the bottom end on my ford focus 2007 Lt is no good, need to replace with new engine.
Was quoted $1750 for the job. Does this sound reasonable? Was wondering if I'm going to replace it anyway would it be possible to swap in for the xr5 engine? Would it fit, and what else would I have to change? Can I get away with using the same drive train, and etc

That would be a big task, If you had a complete car to swap everything over it may be do able. Your going from a 4 cylinder to a 5 cylinder Volvo motor so ever thing is different. Gearbox, ecu, exhaust, drive shafts etc. I love working on cars and I would not tackle that. I have a XR5 and a Zectec Focus along with a ST. The XR5 was in a minor accident and panel work was done in a week and then took 6 months to get the car back as they were unable to start the car after they completed the repair work. The car was driven into their workshop. The long story short after spending time at the dealership swapping new components created a bigger problem as these were not pairing as the car was not running.

Yep, put that one in the too hard basket.
The only 'easy' engine swap, would be to swap in a 2.3L Duratec/Mazda L engine, out of the same era Mazda 3 SP23. Only slightly more kW/HP but a lot more torque. It is essentially the same engine, but with a longer stroke, hence the greater torque. |
