Default Rear Taillight Tint

Hey,
Looking to tint my rear tail lights.
Have a white falcon xr6, thought the colour contrast would look good...
Was wondering, is it legal?
Seems to be becoming more popular.

As far as I know, it wouldn't be legal.

Unless of course it came from the factory that way. God bless the FC/FD LTD tail lights!

If you can get brighter globes...
So that if one stands 200m(?) back and can see them illuminated clearly then its fine.
Otherwise youd be in strife if your rear ended. You'll pretty much always be blamed, insurance wouldnt cover you cos of it, and mr pold might defect you if its that dark or if hes havin a bad day.....

Thats what ive understood! Dont take my word for it...

Its not legal but if your sensible about it (dont do it stupidly dark) then you will probably get away with it. Iv got lightly tinted side indicators on my BA & the tail lights were tinted ages ago but it has since faded to the point you cant notice it! Never had any issues with the police because i dont do stupid stuff and draw attention to myself!

Thanks for the replies. I thought it wasn't legal but just driving around I see a lot of cars out there with their tail lights tinted. Thinking I might do them lightly, I'll give it a go and see how it looks.

another new suggestion...

Ive tinted my tail lights.. but masked over the sections of the breakl light and the reverse light section.. so no excuse for not noticing my tail lights shining.. while still looking "tint custom'ed"

this is actually the advise given when i had my pontiac firebird and if i wanted to do a true Knight Rider look a like, you need the smoked rear lights. i never bothered.
