My dad had one fitted to his Courier, one day the light stopped working on it so he opened it up to see what had gone wrong.... it was just a box with a resistor in it! LMAO

There is only one way to make these electronic rust systems work!
- Wet park your car in your pool..

Otherwise it simply does not work at all. All material specialists and corrosion engineers agree that it's a scam unless it is for use in water or in the ground.

The facts are that a few premium car brands offered in Australia are built to their global spec with full rust protection. For example when you study a now 15 year old BMW E90 or E83 you will not find any seam rust, as it was fully zinc primer dipped, seams treated with various seam sealers and wax-oil based products in all the cavities.

When I had the new Falcon BA MkII in 2005, there was absolutely Zero wax-oil based rust proofing on it from the factory, and many holiday spots where the paint was thin, many seams with naked metal. I was annoyed by that so I added cavity wax straight away. You see the BA-series now even here in dry Perth with rust holes in them, rusted sills, rusted rear quarters near the gas filler port, rusted boot lids, wheel arches etc.

Plenty of a quality wax-oil cavity protection product such as Valvoline ML, Wurth, Dinitrol, or by 3M, or similar quality is really what you need for any car that didn't have it from the factory, and it helps to top it up every 3 or 4 years.

In Europe, until the 2000s, there was a rustproofing (aftermarket) industry, where your car went in for a full treatment with a thick layer of rust proofing
products. At least half the car makes were not fully protected from factory. If the aftermarket treatment was done properly it was fantastic. I worked at a Valvoline authorized application centre as a night time job for some years, so I have applied full rust proofing on several hundred cars. For each model ther was a spray-chart showing cross section illustrations of all cavities, where to drill extra access holes etc, to reach all cavities, roof pillars etc, so everything was protected.
Unfortunately, many of the products have gone 'water based' since, so not the same quality I think, and people may not be willing to pay for proper rust proofing anymore, thinking the factories applies some protection.
