Default Aircon / Fan Settings

I may get ridiculed for not knowing the answer to this, but that's fine - I may be thick-skinned enough!

One of the settings you can choose to move the air round my XR6 is to have hot air on your feet and cold air on your face. Why would you choose that setting? Does it create some sort of airflow that warms or cools the car quicker or more effectively? Or is it some sort of weird quirk of the plumbing for the aircon and fan that meant you cannot have both areas hot or cold at the same time?

Just seems odd when you can choose to have the same temperature aimed at your feet and the windscreen, yet not feet-and-face...

For those of that wear spectacles cold air on the face and warm air on the feet keeps you cosy without fogging up those eye glasses.

actually one of the annoying things i find with my au heater controls, your stuck in traffic, its cold lots of car exhaust emissions outside ,the screen is fogging up, you can`t have screen demisting with recirculate, you can only have it with fresh air(outside air) with stinking car exhaust gas comeing in,............back on topic yes i found that one a bit weird too Monkeysxr6, i have never used the setting you describe.

I always demist with it on recirculate and never have had a problem, just have to make sure that the air con is on as this then de humidifies the air inside the cabin taking out the moisture which is part of the problem with the fogging.

And on topic again my mum loves that setting as she gets cold feet all the time.

The Idea of the setting is to keep you awake on cold nights when driving, with the cold air on your face and warm air on your feet only.

some people don't like having hot 'stuffy' air blown in their face.

i tried the setting last night, and it was too cold on my face and not warm enough for my toes.

if i want fresh air on my face and warm toes i usually have it cranked to hot feet and crack a window

I would regard this as the number one fault with the AU

WHY THE HELL CAN'T I HAVE THE HEATER ON MY FEET AND FACE?

Rather than having a rotary dial with all manner of weird-but-not-comprehensive setups for airflow, why didn't they just do what nearly every car manufacturer has been doing for like the last 30 years and make it generic? Hell my old corolla that was older than me could do hot air on my face and feet, fresh or recycled too! It's not that hard.

The idea is to keep you awake, if you have hot air blowing in you're face ford thinks you might fall a sleep.

You can in a series 1. You can't in a series 2/3.

I notice that quite a lot myself. In the S1 You can keep the air going on the screen okay without outside pollutants, as it's got the extra button to either select or deselect outside air separate to the other dial, but in a S2/3 it's only the options on the dial.

I'd much rather be sitting in traffic in the S1 than my S2!

I wonder why thy deleted that one?

ahh, cool face warm feet. i love that setting. i used to crank the heater on my feet, and crack the windows for freshness on the face in my old car.

stuffy hot air dries out your eyeballs and makes you sleepy. its a great feature.

This idea (as suggested my many people here) is not a bad one - sometimes I do travel with hot air on my feet and crack the driver's window about 2 inches down. By the time the air from the footwell comes past my face on the way out the window it's cool enough to not be too stuffy.

But, I have tried the hot feet/cool face setting a couple of times driving at night to see what benefit it gave, but all that happened was that icicles formed on my face, and my shoes melted off my feet!

Thanks all - excellent ideas and answers!

Well when I'm driving to work at 6am in the middle of winter, and I've only been out of a nice warm bed for half an hour, I would rather blast hot air on my face and feet. Unfortunately I have to settle for just my face, and I cant say I agree with peoples idea of 'stuffy' hot air. If its too hot, turn the heater down? Still takes 10 mins for the heater to really kick in anyway.
