Thumbs up Car of the people!

Hey team!

Just a quick one, i have a FG XR8 ute, just clicked over the 10k mark on the clock,

As it turns out im off to Afganastan in the army, leave in about a month, as ill be earning good money but will be away from home alot, the ute will sit there not driven in the shed!

Each holiday im gonna come back and do some major mods to the gal!

My question is to the people, what/where should i start, i want a reliable everyday driver, still making resonable power, money is no option!!!!

So there ya go, let me hear from you all!

PS Im a qualified mechanic so ya can be quiet tech with your responses!

Welcome to the forums mate

Careful what you say about money being no option! There are guys on here (insert user CAT600) running serious modifications to their cars...

All the best, plenty of mods to make the Boss engine roar

Get the bottom end redone to suit a blower. Then bolt on said blower. New oil pump gears (if they are the same as the BA/BF ones.)

Custom tune. There is your power taken care off.

Visually and audio is a personal taste so I'll leave that to you.

Get it lowered on Tein adjustable suspension with the in dash adjuster. Get some mint looking 20"s that you like. Having a large dish on the rims is mandatory.

Twin exhaust system exiting the rear on both sides.

Thats about all I can think of........for now.

Good luck in Afganistan.

many options depends on how much power you want.
N/A will see you to around 300rwkw give or take a few
supercharged if i remember correctly 350rwkw is the reliability mark before you need to make it stronger .
Twin turbo/turbo - dont know much on these but there is a few just being delvoped so will know more in time.

I like the look of the side exit exhaust the the brutes run, is there any deal with moving the fue tank and the skirting for that matter. Also the ford diffs arent the strongest, have replaced 50 plus in my time working at ford, so with the 4.1 internals will the reliablilty of the diff be beefed up, bening a differnt crown wheel and pinion set up

Power wise i dont mind, i want my mates to be able to drive it while im away and not kill themselves, like good power 350 - 400 rwkw would be nice, i also heard talk of that power blowing the six speed man box, are these true?

Legally side exit exhaust need to be after the diff (may vary from state to state)
get a complete diff rebuild when you do it - but again all comes down to what kind of power you N/A it will be fine after rebuild .
All depends on how much power you want to much power and 4.1 might see nothing but smoke or a tree.

When your doubling the power output of the motor you do need to expect things to go wrong but ive never heard of a gear box going (athough does not mean it has not happend)

For that kind of power you will need forced induction
For superchargers the yella terra units are probly the nicest looking there stealth and just look like a stock motor
But for out right power the kenne bell seems to be the popular choice

Top mount blower/valley type
Or you could go all out a buy a 6litre allow block and go to town

I heard a stroker come up a few times , Cant remember the reason's why its not viable
But the are a few blokes that could tell you .
Forced indutions seems the way to go.

Yeah for 400rwkw would be worth while , Most tuners will only recomend 330-350rwkw on a stock motor

i race cars as a sport and we run elf 108 race fuel, i think that would be the fuel i put in this car when its done, that will remove any ping probs, BUT if i get it tuned to that ill never be able to run pump 98, could be a headache on cruise days, then again 300 - 350 are nice number for every day driver........just enough to go down and get the milk

You can buy a flash tuner its a box . Holds 3 tunes race tune

so
1 tune - race fuel
2 tune -98ron
3 tune - valet or economy
plenty of choices
Only take a minute or so to change tune just plug it in to the ecu port in the fuse box and change your tune in a matter of minutes . Best thing since slice bread.

It not stock , But pretty light on in the mods compared to others . Mine is my work ute got 250+ rwkw goes good but most of my cash is going toward custom tray and suspension/airbags at the minute.

Had no problems with p/s pump or cam tensioners ,But did have noisy timing chain tensioners witch needed replacing.

no cause i will be away i wont be doing it, not sure who i would trust to do it, maybe CnJ motorsport or Redcliffe Dyno, they both do alot of ford work.

For a work ute 250 rwkw is pullin well, mines a style side, dont like the idea of try backs, but i see on here a few people have done the custom tray, exhaust and air bags,

Not sure what suspension is available foe the fg as most of the front end is now all aloy, ill do alot of the work myself, but the engine big work il leave to some guru who specializes in that kind of thing, to much money tied up to make a silly home mistake

Far enough too, Not sure who are the guys to go too in queensland, perhaps get the mods to move this to the boss performance section get a lot more answers .

I know one fella on here has put pedders adjustable supension on the fg but i would think tein or blistein would have a product available by now or not far off.
gonna be a nice build i look forward to seeing the progress.

Oh by the way good luck in afganistan.
