If I do get it, I'm spending every last cent on my car.

You'd have to be mad to put it in the bank!

I know that Rudd's trying to stimulate the economy but I'll tell you this, it will have the opposite effect.

My advice to anyone that gets the $950 is to spend it while it's still worth something...and I'm not joking!

As stupid as this proposal is, it's another $950 closer to a house deposit for me- I'll be saving it and everything else I can for a fair while.

I spent a good 90 minutes today watching question time in the Senate and House of Reps. I find it hard to believe the arrogance and contempt this government is showing towards our system of government and the PEOPLE it is designed to SERVE. They seem to forget that opposition parliamentarians and senators have also been elected to represent citizens of this country too. Not only that, the people of this country DIDN'T give them a majority in the Senate, which would indicate that they wanted some level of scrutiny and debate, rather than a whitewash of onesided policy.

The government has no right to demand that legislation passes without appropriate scrutiny and to complain when their policies are scrutinized (regardless of whether members are voting for or against it) is frankly rude.

I would be buying a couple of more uniforms for my son, a new bed for him (which he desperately needs), a computer desk (his comp is on the floor) and pay to have someone make his comp work (it was a super dooper cheapy bought a year or so ago that he can't do a great deal with). Put some into both his and his sisters savings account and put some away for the school camp and 'extras' that are needed throughout the year.

Plus anything 'left over' will go towards moving into a better house

In years to come, once things have settled, this will all be payed back with higher taxes..there is no such things as free money.

I will donate a portion of the cash to St vincent dePauls to help some people that actually need a handout. The rest is for the kids account because they are gonna need it too..

This is the problem.... politics is by and large a popularity contest, its "dumbed down" by allot of people's primary short term greed and self interests..
Politicians who sometimes make hard, tough necessary decisions for the long term benefit of the country are un-popular, "santa " politicians who give handouts and do feel good stuff are "popular", regardless of the state of the economy, or where it may send our economy.
Sadly the average punter on the street neither understands any of this, nor has any interest in understanding any of this, his primary goal is to make sure he has enough money for fags, booze, rent and food, (oh, and some go fast bits for the car), and if he can get all of this without having to work too hard (if at all) even better!...
Thankfully there are enough intelligent people who vote for both parties to keep some kind of balance in the system.

seeing that so many people on here would prefer not to recieve it, and that is possibly a cross section of the greater community, perhaps the Government should work out a way where you can refuse it, so they can re-direct it somewhere else.

That's fine, but the biggest issue with these "free" handouts is they will take it back in one way or another sooner or later.. if you don't take the money you'll be be paying for it weather you like it or not, so you need to take it just to cover the loss later on....
Make no mistake about this, it isnt free money, it has to come from somewhere, and because he's borrowing it it will have to be paid back, with interest, by us.
The net result or "effect on you" of all of this will be determined by what you do with this handout now, possibly the "best" thing anyone could do with this money is reduce debt with it, either mortgage or credit card....

I understand the hows and wheres, and I understand it is not free. Just saying some may think it's better having the chance to refuse it.

Turnbull hasn't ruled out a stimulus package, but is saying this is too much and wants to be apart of negotiations for a new stimulus package.
Personally it looks more like a political stunt and turnbull wants to get his face on the TV to keep his image up.

BTW I'm not pro Labour or Liberal (swinging voter) it just looks like it too me.

Thik the idea is put money into infrastructure schools etc, but any project takes many months between deciding to do it, to the builders starting work, so they give everyone a couple of grand to spend right now and keep things ticking over until the projects kick in.

DOnt matter to the economy whether you buy a TV a car repair a house repair or beer and ciggies and pokies, they all need people to make them, people to sell them, people to serivece them.

Sure we have to give it back sooner or later, sure the debt has to be repaid, but during boom times when everyone is earning higher wages, when there is lower unemployment and dole etc spending, People are working overtime to meet demand, when prices go up, sales are high and exports go up, all these thisng mean govt rakes in more paye and gst tax dollars
When they are raising interest rates to slow things down, they can raise tax by a bit instead and thus the money starts to come back to repay the loan.
