Unbelievable; I understand the desire not to unthinkingly destroy something without quantifying all that it might enable - but the popular language this is couched in, offers potential for the readily-offended to be, yet again, offended.

What resources are there on the moon?
And how could it be economically viable to mine resources there, and send them back to earth? Costs would be astronomical. |

I wanted to be an astronaut but my parents wouldn't allow it...when I was growing up they used to continually tell me I could do what I want, the sky is the limit. Unsupportive bastards!

Therefore, it’s important to preserve the moon in case you do become an astronaut!
I certainly (subconsciously) view it as a territory of the Untied States - whether right or wrong - and presume that country would act more militaristically than others if it were to feel such a position challenged. |

Get a few solar panels up there and you can have a rocket fuel factory on the moon, great place to refuel after leaving earths main gravity ( escape velocity is more than 4 times faster from the earth rather than the moon, and there is very little atmosphere to contend with).
