Angry Di Filippo intake issue

Hey guys,

Has anyone installed a Di Filippo intake before on their AU?

I just got mine in the mail and was very very very excited. Until I found it didn't come with the silicon from the throttle body or the clamps to hold it there.

I was also pretty surprised it didn't come with any fitting for the rear breather.. So thus need to either illegally vent the breather, or cut a whole in the pipe, stuffing the HPC coating...

I was also surprised that the mounting points were for a part I do not have.. So will rattle and flop around until I purchase more parts..

I also found it odd that I am going to have to grind away the mounting point on my intake manifold so it sits low enough to close my bonnet!!

Anyone else had this issue, or possible solutions?

I dont find it right at all.. $475 to my door, + ??? to actually be able to use it..

Not happy at all :

mate that's terrible. unfortunately your gonna have to let the breather just go anywhere, i don't like the idea of that but a few people on here have custom intakes and have got it just spitting it into the engine bay. I haven't herd of mounting issues though but for that price it should be made of faberge eggs and unicorn blood and deff come with the proper mounting parts and silicon to get the dam thing onto your TB.. With the mounting points yeah like you said its just something you have to do to be able to put ur bonnet down :(. only other way i can see it happening its with more bending and twisting and that will just ruin the hole hpc coat doing so.

sorry to hear the news

good luck

With the oil breather, I used a $15 mini air filter on the end of the breather hose. I had that secured away from the intake, so it looked neat, and worked fine.
Sucks about the intake though. I havent seen a three inch one that doesnt rub though.

Yours is an eseries one and I wonder if Matt has been sent an E series one by mistake? Could explain some of the alignment issues.

Mate as I said to you I dont think the missing intake hole is a major flaw as such, I think you might find that it's left for you to do in purpose so it can be aligned properly - not every car is the same and youd probably be more annoyed if it came with a hole in it that was nowhere near where it needs to be to fit your car. I can see why you would be annoyed about it though, but the HPC coating wont be stuffed if you tap a hole in it to fit the breather.

The rest is fairly poor though and surprising to see from Darren - I have only dealt with him a few times but he was generally ok to me, however if I were you at the moment I would like some answers about it too.

Just tell him to send you some headers for an FG Boss to make up for it and we will work out a deal :hihi:.

Well the receipt says "AU 6 Cyl 3" AIR INTAKE" so I am guessing they got it right.

I can see its pretty close to fitting but a fair bit of work is still required.

I MIGHT have a shop tomorrow and see if I can get a few parts to make it fit..

I just saw your pic to Mr_4.0, E series don't have the brackets in the intake manifold like the AU it appears.

Update

With a fair bit a fiddling, a few extra parts, and about 45 mins of time. I have now got the 3" intake on.

Only issue, it touches the bonnect a little bit so will need to make a few more alterations.

I have also noticed, in "D" the car is shuddering a fair bit.

First I though it was because it was touching the bonnet, so i opened it and its shuddering still? Any ideas?

On the small breather at the rear of the rocker cover I fitted a small air breather as others mentioned on the forums. Would this be causing the issue?

Where could I circulate the rear breather too, seeming the intake doesnt have the fitting in it??

I just called Di Filippo, and they are sending me a T piece to put in the intake so I can plug my breather in.

Considering I was so ragey before, very happy with their service now. Small gestures can really turn around a customer’s perceptions!

This shouldnt of happened in the first place in my opinion. For a part that costs as much as you have spent, ALL the parts should have been in the first package.

The shuddering is common when you put the aftermarket intake on. Mine did the same thing as it touches the underside of the bonnet and the vibrations of the motor at idle transmit thru the car. Annoying to say the least but the extra throttle response will make up for it.

I agree with what your saying. I am just going to suck it up and take it on the chin! I wanted something neat and efficeient and this was the best I could find sadly..

I gave it a hiding before and it pull much smoother through the rev range, was very suprised!

Its louder too which im not sure it needed, but was to be expected.

I will upload some photos shortly and show you how it looks!
