Talking Exhaust upgrade for Yum-Yum

G'day guy's and girls,
well I've been given the go ahead to do an exhaust upgrade and have a place in mind to get the job done. I've done a little ground work to see what others have and what seems to work on the AU's I6
Pacemaker Comp Extractors, Hi' Flow Cat, 2½" straight through system which seems to be the norm for most.
I was hoping you guys could help me with some knowledge on the Cat part, and if it's necessary as the outfit I'm going to says they usually take it straight out and spoke of a big bore...I thought they were only ever good on 8's?
I have to ring them on Monday to get a set of Pacemaker Comps sent up from down south and go over again what it is I'm really wanting.
I've got a grand to play with for this so any and all info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers all.

You probably won't even require a high flow cat as the standard cat is already pretty good unit. From the manifold to the front of the cat it's already 2.5". The restriction is the back of the cat where it comes out to 2.25". What you can get the exhaust fitter to do is modify the back of the factory cat so the outlet is also 2.5".

Thanks for the reply DH, all makes sense now, so when they say 'Cat Back' this is what they're refering to then?

i was under the impression that a 'Cat Back' was an exhaust system that was fitted from the cat converter back to the tail pipe. ie a system minus the headders. not the back bit of the cat itself.

Hrmm multiple misinterpretations going on here. Yes anything aft of the cat is cats back with the systems. No the back of the cat itself is not cats back. I was under the impression Yum-yum was referring to the system anyhow.

Well i would have to say that i have found CARLTON BEST MUFFLERS the place to ask about modified exhausts.
We went into a depth conversation regarding hi flow cats and he suggested that all the stuff on the market for falcons were no better then the original infact even more restrictive.
Why do you think JMM dont ever mention changing cats in there packages???

G'day GK,
nah mate, by the time the finance company had approved me the muffler shop was closed so I had to wait until today to get them to order the extractors, apparently they come up from the south island so I have to wait some more LOL I'm hoping they can do it before Sunday, as I saw on the Tickford Club of NZ website that there's going to be an All Ford Day this Sunday, I'm planning on taking my chitlins along and hopefully get some great pics too :sm_headba
