Ford Adds Standard Reverse Camera, SYNC2 to Ford Kuga

Reverse camera becomes standard across the range while the Trend model gains Satellite Navigation as standard

Introduction of SYNC2 with 8’’ high-resolution colour touch screen on Trend and Titanium, replacing the 5.0’’ colour screen on the Titanium

Ford Kuga offers 10 advanced technologies not found on the RAV4, including fuel-saving innovations such as Auto-Start Stop that can turn off the engine at stops and driver assistance features such as Active City Stop that can apply the brakes if drivers do not respond in time to hazards detected ahead

When compared with 2.5-litre AWD Toyota RAV4 models, the innovative 134 kW EcoBoost in Ford Kuga Ambiente offers more power and torque while still offering better fuel economy

Global open/close added to panoramic sunroof on Titanium

MELBOURNE, 17 Nov, 2015
– Ford is standardising a reverse camera and adding SYNC2 across the Ford Kuga SUV range.

The arrival of SYNC2 on the Ford Kuga makes the SUV one of the most innovative small SUVs available, with 10 advanced technologies – including important driver assistance and fuel-saving features – not available in the Toyota RAV4.

From December, 2015 the Ford Kuga will be available with Ford’s SYNC2 advanced connectivity system for the first time, enabling drivers to operate phone, entertainment, climate and navigation systems using simple conversational language. The system will be available as standard on Trend and Titanium models.

A reverse camera will also become standard across the range, while among the SYNC2 enhancements are voice control of the radio, climate system and Satellite Navigation as standard with Traffic Message Channel.

SYNC2 features a high-resolution 8-inch colour touch screen in the centre console – increased from 5.0-inches on the Titanium – that can also help drivers when manoeuvering by displaying the live feed from the Rear View Camera system.

As well, the Ford Kuga Titanium panorama roof has also been revised to offer improved ventilation for occupants. The panorama roof can also now be operated along with the windows using the key fob as part of the global opening and closing feature, allowing customers to better cool the inside of the vehicle on hot days before getting in.

The stylish interior has been further enhanced with a new air vent design.

Even more tech
The Ford Kuga offers 10 key customer benefits available in the range that are not offered in the Toyota RAV4, including:

- Emergency Assistance – In the event of an accident where an air-bag is deployed or the emergency fuel pump shut off is triggered, the technology calls for emergency response and begins a 10-second countdown during which the driver can cancel the call if necessary.

- AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control – Monitors the SUV’s roll motion at least 100 times per second and selectively applies individual brakes and modifies engine power to help keep all four wheels firmly planted.

- Wi-Fi hotspot – SYNC2 can turn Wi-Fi enabled smartphones into an Internet access point for passengers.

- Active City Stop – Helps drivers avoid or mitigate accidents at speeds up to 30 km/h by applying the brakes automatically and reducing engine torque if it detects a braking, slower-moving or stationary vehicle in front of it and determines that a collision is likely, and if the driver has not taken any action.

- Hand-free Power Tailgate – By simply waving your foot under the rear bumper, the hands-free power tailgate opens (and closes) automatically – making it easier for to manage cargo.

- Active Grille Shutter – Located behind the grille, the shutter opens when the engine needs cooling and closes when it doesn’t to reduce aerodynamic drag so less fuel is used.

- Capless Refueling System – Helps ensure drivers use the right fuel by only allowing the correct nozzle to be inserted while avoiding dirty caps by allowing the nozzle to go directly into the tank neck without removing any cap, similar to a racecar.

- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System – Provides early detection of pressure loss in the wheels and warns the driver accordingly by using signals from wheel speed sensors to detect differences in rotational speed between each wheel.

- Auto Start-Stop Engine – Reduces fuel consumption and emissions by switching off the engine automatically when the car comes to a complete stop.

- Adaptive Cruise Control – Can help slow the vehicle If it senses traffic is slowing. When the traffic clears, it goes back to the pre-set speed.

EcoBoost power and efficiency

The Ford Kuga is available with six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions and choice of state-of-the art EcoBoost petrol and optional 2.0-litre TDCi diesel powertrains.
Ford’s 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine is available in two states of tune for the front and all-wheel drive Ford Kuga Ambiente. The Ford Kuga Ambiente front-wheel drive develops 110 kW / 240 Nm while the all-wheel drive develops 134 kW / 240 Nm.

A higher performance 2.0-litre GDTi petrol engine powers the Trend and Titanium all-wheel drive models, developing 178 kW / 345 Nm ˄. When compared with 2.5-litre AWD Toyota RAV4 models, the 134 kW EcoBoost offers more power and torque while still offering better fuel economy and the new 178 kW high-output EcoBoost engine offers a considerable 46 kW and 112 Nm over the 2.5-litre Toyota†˄.

Ford Kuga Trend and Titanium models can be optioned with a 2.0-litre TDCi diesel, which develops 132 kW / 400 Nm. When compared with 2.2-litre AWD Toyota RAV4 diesel automatic models, the Ford Kuga TDCi engine offers more power and torque, while still offering better fuel economy over the RAV4 Diesel automatic range†.

For the exterior, Shadow Black replaces Panther Black and Green Instinct replaces Ginger Ale. Green Instinct is one of the new premium Mica paint colours to be offered by Ford.

Other available Ford Kuga colours include: Magnetic, Frozen White, Deep Impact Blue, Ruby Red, Tiger Eye, Moondust Silver and Race Red.

The stylish second-generation Ford Kuga debuted Ford’s Intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD) technology in Australia when introduced in 2013, and also features Ford’s hands-free tailgate – standard on the Titanium and an option on the Trend (recommended option price of $1,200) – that can be opened or closed using a simple kicking motion beneath the rear bumper.

Driver assistance technologies offered with Ford Kuga include Active Park Assist, Blind Spot Information System, Active City Stop, Lane Keeping Aid, Auto High Beam and Tyre Pressure Monitoring.
