Lets see, 17", not full of money, 1999 Series 1 Forte....

I'm also guessing that out at Karratha you may wind up on the odd gravel road, which aren't kind to 17" wheels. If you buy after market mags there is always the risk that they will be out of production when you need to replace one.

Seriously, what about putting a second hand set of BA/BF 17s on it? You should be able to pick up a set in good condition, with OK rubber, for around $700.

Kind of like these:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-BA-XR6-M...QQcmdZViewItem

Or these:

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...SideView-2.jpg

I paid $700 for those from a tyre shop, with 80% tread on the original tyres.

That leaves you with maybe $800 or so to do other stuff to your car, spend on women, or whatever.

Using BA/BF wheels has the added plus that if you bend one, getting replacements is easy.

In addition to what I've written above, the cost of new rims from Bob Jane may be out of all proportion to what your car is worth, which means its money down the drain when you go to trade it in later.

Bob Jane may even be able to sort you out with the BA rims if they have received any as a trade in. Otherwise, ring around the tyre shops in Perth. Somebody will have a set they can ship to you.

What kind of grill is in that car? It looks quite good.

if you are after 17" rims why not get some factory Tickfords (series 1)? They look good, are replaceable, reasonably priced and insurance friendly as they were an option on AU1's to start with.

Yes I agree, these are the nicer choice. Best AU rim ever.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/17-INCH-AU-SE...ayphotohosting

But they usually go for between $700 - $1,000 for the rims only, then he's got to buy tyres. If he's short of dosh he could probably get BA/BF rims with tyres for about the same money. There are usually a lot more BA/BF XR6/Xr8 rims available than S1 Tickfords, and where he lives the rims may get a bashing.

Also, I'd rather see our younger forum members getting used Dunlops than new Silverstones, or whatever, if they are trying to save a few bucks.

I like, from that link, either the QUAKE DSK or RACER. Not sure what fits ford though...

But i prefer the look of the BA 17" Rims the best, i am buyest though.

I like the matrix, racer and vortex hyper out of those. Save a bit longer and get 18's imo. I haven't really seen an AU with aftermarket 17's thats looked amazing.

Problem too is around this town i won't be lowering it. The stock 4WD ride height is perfect for our curbs and stones. i guess i'll have to look around in Perth when i'm there next month see if i can get some of the BA's with tyres. those Tickfords do look sweet though! i'm just sick of the gay *** hub caps.

And i think i'll be keeping this car for at lease another 3-4 years so i might as well get it to look good so i can squeeze some extra price out of it when i sell it. I mean the MOMO auto selector i bought would have to increase it's value by at least $5000, haha lol! :P

Matt your cars looks awesome BTW

Run stockies, rip the caps off, and spend the money under the bonnet instead. But if you really want a set of rims then like abacus mentioned, standard AU series 1 XR8 rims will look good and are strong. Mine saw hell and always came up looking good with a spray from the hose.

I'm with you! But our friend is short on dosh, so the BA/BF rims might be the go second hand. Also Casper's idea for Territory rims isn't bad either.

I wonder what they go for second hand?

Link to BA/BF rims and tyres.

Yes. I see your point. Just re-read the whole thread, not one mention of Territory rims.

Where the heck did I get that idea from?

They're AU1 clear so they have an orange lens inside them. AU3 were like crystal clear and used orange globes.

Hey standard if i were you and you were looking for 17's, i'd seriously go just a ford designed 17" alloy wheel. Most aftermarket 17's look pretty bad imo.. (no offence to anyone thats got them). I'd be leaning towards the AU1 or AU2/3 17's.

I say get a set of Territory TX steelies ... they look clean on AU's ... I should know

But if you are after something on the Bob Jane catalogue ... the Strada's are about the only wheel I'd choose though ... clean lines that would suit the AU.

But for ease of replacement ... go for a Ford wheel (or a copy depending on budget).

Might be best checking out Wheelking's website and getting it shipped to you.

Gold or charcoal rims look really good on a white car - nothing wrong with the AU 17" rim painted gold IMO.

Like this ... but just ignore the black car LOL.
