as the title stats just wondering if bare metal is necasary for a respray in a diferent color? some people have told me it needs to be yet some have told that as long as sanded / primed well it would not have to be? can any shed some light on this

im respraying mine at the moment, non bare matal!!
but u have to bog all stone chips etc!! can be tedious, but much easier than bare metal

nope.. Rmyers car was red and is now silver.
another mate went from red to blue. SPHELL went from red to blue aswell Sunny went white to green none of these were bare metal. aslong as its prepped and primed properly it'll be fine.

beautiful, reason for this got to go to court due to being stupid, most likely loose lisence for 6 - 12 months so the car will be torn apart and rebuilt, still deciding on which color it will be phantom purple or hot metalic pink
 i want a car that will stand out

It really depends on the condition of the paint, if the paint has crows feet or it is peeling or cracking you are better off taking that panel back to bare metal.

hey mate im a spraypainter,no u dont have to take back to bare metal providin paint is in decent order, you dont even have to prime the surface your paintin just rub back until shine is gone, wax and grease remover on the surface your paintin... and paint. If there are stone chips, sand them out and primer over them, once primer dry (leave say 24hrs), then sand primer smooth with p800 grit sandpaper (wet in my choice), wash surface and wax and grease remover on surface, then paint straight over. Primer (highfill) isnt needed unless over some type of repair.... hope i helped

Theres an R30 skyline that lives near me that i swear was painted with either house paint or sun zinc blue. And sum homo as relief teacher at my skool has an Ea that has the top half painted pink and the bottom half painted yellow, with all these peace messages painted on it in blue. Her son and his mates did it with regualar graffiti spray paint cans by hand and it is soooo shit!!!
