Have been viewing this forum for the past 2 months and now I am a new member.

Just bought an au III ute that has 2 bucket seats and I wish to put a third seat behind the passenger seat. Can it be done ? Is it leagal?

Please assist as my 2 children are driving my crazy, everytime I pick up the fishing rod they fight as to whom will come with me.undefined

Not sure I'm reading your post right but if you're talking about putting another seat behind the passenger one, there's no chance in hell it'll fit or be legal. The only way I can think of doing it is to put a dicky seat in the middle, but even that will be tricky to do without the car being column shift auto.

I have seen a BA XR8 Ute in Canberra with a seat mounted on top of (or inplace of) the centre console. It was a floor shift manual with the standard console all the way to where the lid is (or thereabouts). It was ADR compliant and looked pretty schmick too if you're into that kind of mod.

There are afew AU taxis that are column shift and have dickie seat in the middle of the two front seats. I think you would have a slim to none chance of trying to find that type of taxi at a wreckers.

As for how would you do it. I dont know.

Come to think of it there was a Pursuit 250 for sale on the forums which had a similar mod done to it. I know it was sold and the thread was moved but I might try to dig it up and see if it has any info.

But now that i have seen the photos of the Pursuit 250 Im sold, that third seat in between the buckets looks hot.

My UTE is a tbar auto.Must have this mod, were and how do I go about aquiring this?

In the post I got those photos from, all that was said was that the dealer had it done to the car before the guy picked it up, he didnt have any details for a trimmer etc who might have done the work.

I guess a good place to start would be an auto upholsterers, if they don't do it they may know who does.

If you were in Canberra, I'd tell you to go to Pride Auto Accessories 11 Kembla St Fyshwick ACT 2609 ph: (02) 6280 6222. They do all sorts of dickie seats and could surely fix you up with something like that. I'd print that photo out and take it with you to a 4wd accessories store and see what they can do. I would expect the cost to be around $1000 (our 2 seat dickie seat in the wagon was $1500).

A mate might have one for sale to suit an au. He bought it for his ba pursuit but he had to get a different one to get it engineered.
