Default Vic SpeedCameras take another hit

It seems that a court case in Queensland has shown a spotlight on the invalidity of speed cameras used in Victoria.

A expert witness revealed how many speeding fines are invalid when there is an object nearby (such as a sign or another car) that may casue reflections and false readings. This fact is well known and documented in radar manuals and police guides but is often ignored by radar operators in Victoria rendering thousands of fines invalid.
Refund and compensation is demanded.

Good to see the issue of speed cam revenue raising isnt dead yet in the media.

It's about time this particular issue was raised. I argued this vary point a few years ago when I took a speeding ticket to court. But of course it was dismissed as evidence.

The key is to get the info on what RANGE the camera was set to. See, if the range only spans three lanes then the reflection issue goes away.

Bottom line is the law has been legiuslated too far towards the driver now having to prove innocence. This is typically legislated on the premise that community benefit from degradations are greater than the effect on the defendent. Alas this distorted view has now reached a point where the blatant abuse of regulations and practices leads to widespread false infringments.

Worse still in NSW this community 'good' valuation has meant that if you take on the cops YOU pay no matter what - the cops aren't liable for your costs even if you win and even if you prove they were negligent etc.

Fair world? Wear a blue uniform and bypass democracy - we live in an oppressive society where Police have all the wrong powers. They can write you a ticket, confiscate your car, but they can't search people for handguns without a warrant. Go figure!

And the worst thing is it wont change.

I think the most we can do is vote bracks out and limit the raft of ridiculous proposals on "furthering the road safety message".
However, Robert Doyle dosnt seem to be all that much better and he will never reapeal any of the legislation put in place by Bracks.

As usual, Pete has managed to get his feeling towards police in the way of the issue.

The problem with this whole thread is that it was in QLD, not Vic. The government here has legislated all the loopholes and defences away to make sure they protect their income stream. What is decided in QLD or what is actually in Australian Standards have no bearing on the court system down here .. yay for politicians.
