Default Adelaide to Warnambool.

Hi Guys

Im of on my trip takeing in the Great Ocean Rd staying at Warnambool a couple nights & then on to Melbourne Wed (am). My question looking at the maps is I can go inland to Keith & get to Mt Gambier that way & then on to Warnambool. Or go what looks the more scenic route via Robe , Kingston SE to Mt Gambier & then on to Warnambool. Time is not really an issue im assuming its approx an hour more via Robe? Do people know the approx km's for both these options if road condition is similiar etc, Love to hear input from people that have done this trip not too long ago. Pro's & con's for both cheers. :

Mt Gambier to Warrnambool is 187km (2hrs)
and if you are going to go to Robe you might as well keep going along the coast to Portland ..to Warrnambool is 101km (1hr)

Before you leave post it up
and if its a weekend then meet up and say G'day
Where are you off to after W'bool ???

I wouldnt bother with the kingston road. I travelled it friday and its a bumpy winding road with nothing to look at except Kingston its self. To get to Robe you have to travel off the highway anyhow.

Its a much better view going through Keith-Narracorte-Penola and although im not into wine, you maybe and there are some great ones down through coonawarra way. Its about 20ks shorter via coast

Thanks for that I will go Keith-Narracorte-Penola & someone from Mt Gambier would be far more familiar with those roads than myself. Thanks for heads up on Kingston Road.

When are you doing this trip as we are going Warrnambool-Adelaide to Whyalla leaving at 4am Friday. Going to go Mt Gambier, Penola, Keith way as it looks the best option, not a bad road as far as Coonawarra as havent been any further

Sounds like a plan, funny how there is a bakery along most routes. The bakery at Holbrook makes damn nice pies/slices for the Sydney trip

I travelled the senic route last weekend.

I think if you're planning on a stop and look around robe is a nice place. Stopped there for lunch, and planning on going back in the 4wd in the not too distant future.

But honestly, robe is it. From Millicent through to Robe, there is nothing to see. Dont see the water anywhere unless you go into Beachport. I think you'd save less than 30 mins going direct from Kingston to Millicent and staying on the Princes Hwy. Better road too, but just as boring. I just wanted to see Robe so took the detour.

Princes Hwy is the better road. The road from millicent to robe is fine, but just bumpier and you drive it a little more than couching it on the princes hwy.
