Getting the bus from the airport to the city (and back) is the cheapest option if you are staying in the city. The OP said that they had friends, so I'd assume that they'd be picking them up though.
XCGXL, you could always get the tram in to the city and then the bus out to the airport. :P

Harbourtown is another good spot. Factory outlets.

The bus that goes from Glenelg to the city stopped right outside my motel opposite the marina. It goes right past the airport turn off, it should go into the airport. Shouldn't have to go into the City and back when Glenelg is so close to the airport.

I did the trip last weekend.

For the most part you'll find it pretty dull and boring,

BUT

Watch the cops from an hour melbourne side of horsham, right through to half an hour past Nhill.

I got done last weekend for 131kmh in a 100 by the horsham TMU. They are notourious for popping up everywhere, and being anything but lenient.

We've got a B-Double that goes to south aus twice a week, and the only place they ever ever get pulled over is by the horsham cops. One drive who only had 3 points left on his license was booked for tail gating which was the end of his last 3 points. He was coming up to an overtaking lane, and building speed to pass another double. Was well past the 300m sign, and only about 25m off the rear of the other double. Minimum allowed following distance is 50m, but seriously, hardly something you take someones last 3 points over!

I Fueled up in adelaide before i left, and again in horsham. Good place to stop, and cheapest fuel between the 2 major cities.

If you want a senic drive home, go adelaide - robe - millicent - mount gambier - warrnambool - colac -- gelong - wez. If you cut robe out, it only takes about an hour longer, but was nicer scenery.

Whopping? It's only 800kms. Try Adelaide to Sydney (~1500kms and boring as hell through the Hay Plains) or Adelaide to Perth (2-3 days). Adelaide to Alice Springs can also be done in about 15 hours driving.

Gotan, where in Werribee are you. I ask because I lived in Wyndhamvale and found that for the first part of the trip, it was better to go up Ballan Rd to Bacchus Marsh the back way, rather than Derimut Rd to get to the Western Hwy. Depends on where you are though. If in Hoppers Xing then Derimut would still be the go.

BTW If you get to Hahndorf and like cured meats, head to the Butcher and try a Bum Burner or some Metwurst. Good stuff!

Fishing off the Adelaide beaches is a bit hit and miss mate unless you have a boat. Most of the jetties have squid though and garfish.

As with most beaches, early morning and late afternoon on a high tide would be the best. There are a few beaches with gutters where you might score some mullet or sand whiting from. Best place for beach fishing would be anywhere south of brighton jetty.

cheers

Brad

I’ve been told that you can get a pretty nasty dose of crabs down there.
