Default New Crow cam Installed!

Just finished installing the crow cam 2232526 installed on my AU S1 auto, remind me not to this on a weekday next time, :
I am suprised that the ECU took it well, it is afterall a mild cam but still.

I seems to pull very good till 3000rpm but im am scared to take it further, any idea on how many kms I should run it in?

BTW this was the last billet cam from Crow however all is not lost, you can still get yours reground for around $150. They will be getting more billets in June.

LOWAU, can you tell me a bit more about it, I'm thinking that will be the cam I might go with... What else have you done to the car, and what sort of gains have you made? I'm mostly interested in getting a bit more torque and low end power. What are the billet cams worth when they have them in? Thanks, Matt

I should say, I'm not keen on spending a fortune, realistically probs extractors, exhaust and a mild cam will be all I want to do. Can I get away with this cam on standard ECU? I don't really want to shell out the bucks for an edit.

I got the cam for $390 direct from Crow in campbelfield. I have pacemaker 3399, 2.5" exaust, K&N panel filter and a 3.73 LSD.

No dynotunes yet but I have ran a 15.12 on the 1/4 mile at calder.

It is a mild cam, the smallest crow have in their range for the AU's. I wanted something that would work with the standard valve springs and ECU so this was it.

I will let you guys know how it goes tomorow on Fuel and LPG.

JoesAU- Thanks for the advice and I hope your car is sorted and back on the road soon.

yeah watch your valve springs even thou my cam is the 2522 i think it has a little more lift than yours my springs were rooted coil bind, the centre ring at the top was dropping into the bottom of the spring basically, which is no good. I have new springs going on my head tommorow.

15.12 sounds really good from those few mods. Is ur car a falcon or xr, and most importantly is it auto or manual?

Its an Auto forte S1.

Hopefully it works out sweet and I can crack in the 14s now but I am really worried.

dude if you that worried, take it to a mechanic that has a dyno and get them to run it for you and have professional look. safest option. better to spend 200 for them to have a play and 2000 to replace all your internals when something blows

150,000km and I will be taking it all the way up untill the auto changes into 2nd. If it does valve bounce or doesn't sound rite I will change the springs, just hope nothing breaks.

The springs do take around 500 lift on the au six safely and 510 kinda yes no safely.

Despite what people sayabout not running bigger cams in I disagree with what everyone has said. Fact is that the lifters rockers are far better to see conservative revs for a few days. I like to do this because everything seems to sit together better.Too eager too early and then things like lifters seem to go rattly ..

There is more to selecting springs than avoiding coil bind at max valve lift.

If you are not sure then ask someone. Best to get a recommendation from your engine builder, and/or cam grinder...

so is that 15.1 from jst diff and exhust mods, b4 the cam.
That sounds reall good. With those mods does that mean my xr6 can get into the 14's, i would of thought it would take atleast 5k b4 i got 14's in an auto 6 ford

I ran 15.6 with the exhaust mods only and then with the diff it cut it down to 15.1.
Every car is different espsially with these mass produced cars but it is always possible.

The cam is great, heaps of power in the midrange and it just makes the car rev out quicker. It works well with petrol and LPG.

And those times were before the gas system was installed.

thats awsome, what exhust/extractors are u using, is there any real difference what brands i go for.
I was jst about to give up on my au xr6 auto for performance but ur post has changed my thinking, as according to ur figures with exhust mods (cat extractors and 2.5inch mandrel bent quoted at $900) i should be bettering 15.1 as my diff is already a 3.45 and the engine has a diff cam and a bit more power from standard

i doubt theres much of a difference betweeen 3.45 and 3.7, wen keeping in mind the xr6 has a bit more power and prob reacts better to the same mods.

Anyways i will be more then happy if i could do 15.1, with those mods(<$1000). Any better is just super good, anyone think its possible

I am using Pacemakers 4499 (cheaper ones), 2.5" hi flow cat and 2.5" reback exhaust.
If I was gonna do the diff again i would go 3.9s instead, the autos are pretty taller geared then the manuals so I think 3.9s would be better.

I would do the exhaust mods first and see how you go.
