Default Crappy Nth QLD Roads

Hi all

Thought I would post up a few pictures of my wheel after I hit a pot hole last week. It's amazing how bad the roads are in Townsville the council seems to be doing nothing to fix the problem. If they do manage to get off their bums to fill in a pot hole all they seem to do is make a mountain out of it.

Basically I was driving home one night last week and it was raining pretty hard and the road was covered in water when all of a sudden I feel this big bang and I knew I hit a pot hole so I pulled over up the road checked the wheels and kit luckily no damage and thought **** that was lucky. I got maybe 2min up the road and the car felt like it had a flat tire so I pulled over again only to notice that the rear drivers side tire was flat. After I changed my wheel I went to put the flat one back in the book only to notice the big dint in the wheel.

So here are the pics

If anyone has for sale an 18" BA XR8 Wheels for sale please pm with a price as I am in desperate need of one

Cheers
Alpineau

Have you talked to any wheel repairers up there? I've seen worse that have been repairable, and if it's only the inner lip they won't have to machine the face or anything, which will make it cheaper. Maybe $150 to fix?

I talked to a few tire shops around town and they all say they will have to send it away and it's just not worth it when you have to pay $100 in freight plus the cost of the repair just cheaper to get a new wheel

Thanks for the suggestion though

Ouch! , Imo i would be visiting the local council with the bill in my hand expecting them to pay for the damage !.
If possible, go back to the location and take a photo of the pot hole and areas around it ( a distant photo with the pot hole in it , and a steet sign or something in the background / to prove the area the photo was taken in).
If you produce the above to the council for that area along with the bill , and don't make too much of a huff about it (i had the same thing happen a few years back ) , just demand the bill be payed and be happy, they usually co-operate and pay out no worries. gl

Yep. Thats Nth QLD for you.
Bowen's roads are shockers too. Just patches on patches on patches around this joint.
They're filming a movie here soon based in the 1800's... Lets just say they won't have to modify the roads to suit the time period! :

Yea I was going to do that but the buggers decided that they would fix it the day after so I had nothing to go on, it's getting to the point here that every wet season I will just put the crappy 16"s back on just in case

The roads in Tville are heaps better than the ones up here in Cairns...

But that sucks about the damage... Definitely take it to council...even if you can't get them to pay, at least your voice will be heard

I think the roads in Townsville are pretty good in comparison to some other places I've lived. Mackay's a joke, but better then Mt Isa

This also happened to me on my last visit to the gold coast near the robina town centre, but luckily I had a hire car (hyundai elantra) so I just swapped it over with the spare ( this car was almost new) and said nothing when I took the car back. Not good I know......
