Im trying to tidy up my engine bay, and the less vacuum lines and wires I have running around the place, the easer the job is gonna be. With that in mind, Im wanting to move the line that goes from the inlet manifold to the carbon canister.
Preferably Id like to ditch it completeley if its not 100% necessary (dont care about the legal side, never seen a cop look under anyones wheel arch for a carbon canister!), but if its imperritive I keep it ill just run the line straight into the intake air box so theres one less hose under the hood. My question is, where do the other 2 lines (theres 3 of them) from the carbon canister go to (i know ones to the inlet manifold)?? Can it be removed completeley?, does it actualy do anything other than reduce polution? If I do remove it completeley, am I likeley to have any other problems like the ECU or BEM screwin me around because a fault code comes up or something? Cheers

AFAIK, only the V8s had the carbon canister in the front guard.
Also, as I have kids who probably want to grow up in a less polluted world, I would not recommend taking any of the pollution gear off - it is the most selfish act you can do when modifying a car. Keep it legal and green, and think of the long term health of all other oxygen breathers.

I definiteley got an I6, if its not the carbon canister, any Ideas what it would be?? its a square black box under the left hand front guard with 3 hoses running into it, one of which goes into the manifold on a tconnector that connects the PCV to the manifold also.
Where is it normaly on the 6's?? Im not a very green person (sorry greenies), but I do run the car on gas (only because Im a tight**s), so in reality I dont actualy think Ill be causing any more polution than I already am - I was more interested in finding out where it all runs to and from so I can come up with an alternative to all the hoses under the hood, and relocate/remove or rethink depending on where its all going to and from and what any sidefects of disconecting certain lines would be

Well, they say you learning something new every day, so this is my day to learn. That is the Carbon canister, and one line goes from the manifold to it, the other returns to the fuel tank. It is for petrol vapour only, so unlikely you would need it when running on gas. However, if the car is dual fuel, then you will need it, and not sure what it does by not using it.

It is call Evap Canister Purge Solenoid. It prevents fuel vapours from the tank being vented to the atmosphere . It collect the vapours while the car is not running. And when you start your car it purge it to your intake manifold.

Just keep it on the car. It doesn't affect performance and it performs a useful function .. |
