This is the pod setup that i run on my 88EA. They only fit EA to ED MPFI. I make them myself out of stainless steel.

I put a pod in my EF a day before i got extractors, so im sure if it helps performance. Its in the airbox and sumtimes the engine gets a tad warmer that usual, it never gets over half way, and i drive up to mombulk and back everyday up and down hills and stuck behind slow cars and trucks lol.

From what iv read and heard it wont make ur car any quicker but itll probably work well if u do other things to the engine....just one of those things that may help that little bit...

sounds good also

i have a ram pod on the end of a 3" pipe bent round the rocket cover and down right behind the headlights on my ef XR6. good suction and better throttle response, could do with a heat shield i think as others mentioned hot air. Its a redline which is rated better than K&N and 1/2 the price. Had a K&N panel, didnt notice anything really, but i probably needed a bigger cold air intake and pipe... ive rambled a lot

I have a redline pod filter in my laundry, not once has that room over heated.

Had it in my ED for all of 20 minutes, only put it in cos I bought it of the previous owner of my car and wanted to try it. Definitely sounds better but as I didn't have anything assisting it (a snorkel or heat shield) I took it out. Seems pretty good though.

Wow thats awesome! How'd you manage that? Is that intake pipe just the standard one or is it off something else? Any photos of where it goes through the box?

I have in both cars the K&N panel and find that rather affective. Go for the Panel filter

I have a pod in the box out of necessity. A gas backfire blew the lid off the box, and cracked it badly, so I threw a pod in, and now the lid is just used to cover the pod so it's legal - it doesn't seal, but doesn't need to as the pod ensures that I get nice filtered air. Plus if I get a backfire in future, I know it's not going to blow the filter out of the box.

At the end of the day, its all about how much cold air you can track through to your combustion chamber, not necessarily the volume of air.

HOT air will take up much more volume than cold air.........so the worst case scenario would be having a massive intake area that is sucking in HOT air.

Better off with a small volume that sucks in cold air under a little bit of pressure or "ram".....

I guess the main real benefit of the K & N or BMC will be the fact you don't have to chuck em out.

I have a BMC on the GT.....it cost me $70 and works OK...........better than the paper filter.........who knows..........

I have seen DYNO pulls first hand that showed absolutely NO gain from a switch and also had 1/4 mile runs with and without a filter and again didn't find any difference.........In fact, the biggest surprise was just how well the "woven" filters flow.

At the end of the day, I guess its how the engine is tuned to run with all the modified hardware. No use having massive airflow if your engine can't handle it.............probably leaning it out and run the risk of detonation under too much load.

Pod in the box is the way to go.
Definetly not an exposed pod, i've been trying this recently and playing around with a boxed off pod and one just hanging out half enclosed. the pod just heats up like anything and the acceleration just lags.

anyhow, I have a b-series panel box if interested.

From what I've seen/heard pod in the box with a proper CAI setup is the way to go.
I think I'll stick with my $10 panel filters though, until I have $100 thats been sitting there unused for a month. I can think of much better things to buy for my car.
