g'day all,
Im currently replacing the alternator on my AU III XR6 VCT & have encountered a problem putting the serpentine belt back on. Im not sure how to loosen it & am having great difficulty trying to finish the job. Any help would be much appreciated. |

just use your hand and pull it up .
I find it easier to slide it off the water pump. and when putting it back on I put it on the power steering pulley last. Stand at the drivers side grab the belt and lift up |

The tensioner has a square 3/8 hole for fitting a ratchet or breaker bar to release tension on the belt for removal and refitting. It's also easier to remove the cooling fans.

I just pulled on the belt until the 3/8 hole in the tensioner lined up and slid a drill bit into it. Replace the belt (a bit fiddly) and then reverse the procedure. No tools necessary!
