Default Who uses Upper Cylinder Lubricant?

Hi - who here uses Upper Cylinder Lubricant, and if so what have your experiences been with various brands?

I have both my AUs on LPG, both running Flashlube via the drip feed bottle. It's actually quite hard to compare brands because each uses different bottles and drip rates as some liquids are thinner/thicker than others.

I chose Flashlube because it was first recommended to me, but I like the idea of supporting a product made in my country and hometown. That's another reason I take pride in driving my Falcons, because they're made 10 minutes from my house.

I've spoken a few times to the guys at the flashlube factory and they seem like top blokes, always happy to talk and ask questions. They have a confidence in their product and stack it happily against all others.

As far as the bottle (drip feeder) goes, my neighbour has a Morey's system and whilst I can't fault the performance of the Flashlube system, I liked the Morey's bottle better, as it was smaller and a neater shape, making it easier to attach and tuck away in the engine bay. That aside, I'd go Flashlube.

All the best with your decision.

Also, I buy the lube in 5 Litre containers, soooo much cheaper that way.

Why bother. if the engine has a little bit of wear and is not tight then it is unlikely you will get a stuck valve. I just kept running my clevo and thought if the guides wear too excessive or a valve burns out then I will do the heads up and two years down the track after a holed radiator the head gasket went so off came the heads, bigger valves bronze guides and hardened seats and presto its an unleaded clevo cost about 700 for both heads total reco.

Thanks GK - do you think the motors last longer and work better with the UCL?

Old man used to use Morey's through the feed setup in a FJ60 Landcruiser. Seemed to work well, did 200,000 after the recondition (when it was installed) no problems.

Though i gotta say everyone seems to use Flashlube these days

the guy who fitted my LPG said on the I6 falcon "don't waste your money" some engines need it but the falcon is not one of them. look at all the falcons geting 800 to 900K out of an engine as a taxi with mo flash lube . as i said some do need it but The I6 faclon isn't one of them

I'm not sure to be honest. Some in the Know say "don't run LPG without it", others say "don't bother."

I chose it for my vehicles and am happy with it. I guess if nothing else, it gives peace of mind. That's still no guarantee of course! LOL!

Put it this way, it can't hurt!

Quite true!

Everything we discuss and do here has an annoying tendancy to do that, "hurt the wallet!" LOL!

The thing is if these types of things (UCL and oil stabiliser etc) do what they claim then you would use them and try to do it is a cost effectively as possible.

Same here. The shop that fitted my LPG do all the servicing for a fleet of a few dozen taxis. They told me the valves, guides & seats in the I6 are all made of better quality metal than most other engines.

OTOH I have Flashlube in the Courier (which has a thinly-disguised Mit'shi Astron II 2.6) as the gas fitter recommended it for that engine. It seems to work as I haven't had any valve problems in 11 years on LPG.

Has anybody fitted it to a V8 Fairlane / LTD ?
I think engine bays are the same though on all the V8's, bugger all room.
I got a brand new Morey's kit cheap off e-bay but there doesn't seem to be any room to fit the bottle.
As for vacuum lines, I can't find any diagrams in the Ellery's work shop manual, (although I can identify them) I don't know what they are powering and it seems that they are one side of the manifold or the other.

The trouble with these systems is that when under load they dont provide protection when the motor needs it most - because there's not much vac to draw the fluid through

I was under the impression that when the lubricant burnt in the combustion process it leaves some residue behind on the valve to protect them and the seats.

Has anyone got a diagram of the vacuum system used in the AU II V8's?
