to restore the faded grey/black bit of the bumper plastic the only thing I have heard works ok and lasts for a while without painitng would be peanut oil rubbed in, dont get it on the paint though.

not in a hurry it will soak into the plastic, and oil repels water.

there is no long term permanent fix that I know of, other then paint it and clear coat it.

My parents EBII wagon is really bad as well. I have used armorall and some "black trim wax" but neither could get the colour back. The black trim wax did wonders on my door handles and my sister's rear bumper (89' Lancer) but the front bumper on the EBII was too far gone. It's a non-genuine bumper (courtesy of a woman pulling out in front of my mum) and got put on in 1997, yet somehow it has faded badly while the rear bumper and side mouldings still look like new. The worst thing is that not only has the bumper faded, but it has also gone all rough, and when you rub your hands over it, you can literally see bits of bumper flaking off (as if it has dandruff!). Has anyone else suffered any similar quality issues with non-genuine bumpers? If so, can they be fixed?

I'm not sure about the glossy black door handles, as they are painted black, aren't they? When I said the black trim wax did wonders for my door handles, I was talking about the EA unpainted black plastic (which fade terribly)

yes, just dont use alot, and it will all clean off, just be careful around the chrome stripes if you have them or they will lift off.
