Polish Fiat Niki

This is not your standard Fiat Niki.

So what is you standard FSM Niki? "Lemon!" by Tony Davis describes it as: "Pocket sized horror", "air cooled two cylinder carburetted screamer with just 652mL of capacity and a manaul choke, if not used judicially, would flood the engine." Then Tony goes on to ponder whether this is a car or lawn mower.

Truth is this car, (or the car it once was in the video), was the Polish Falcon, nearly everyone had one and I had the honour of travelling in this beast. But I barley remember anything of it.

More stats:

Power: 18kW
Weight: 600kg
NA Options:
- Automatic
- Air Conditioning
- Synchro Gearbox
- Radio
- Glovebox
Hoon Stat: 0 - 80km/h in 30secs (Speedo calibrated to 140km/h, journos struggled to reach 100km/h.)
Last year of production: 2000
Number made: Roughly 3 million.

Honestly I thought the option the lads threw into the video of the steering front and rear would've been more of a talking point.

But hey, dramatic fuel prices forces people to say dramatic things.

They awesome for fuel economy and thats about it. It's basically an equivalent to a Matiz/ Charade in Poland.

Seen that video before, fair effort and the thing looks like it hammers, it's not a standard motor in there, thats for sure.

Not a standard rear axle either, or is it front?

It is not particularly economical for its size - compare it to something like a Honda Civic VEi of the time for a sense of perspective. This thing was being sold in Australia for $6,990 (originally $7,990) during the EA-ED era. Trouble is, anyone with half a brain would have bought a secondhand KA-KE Laser or something for the same money. A few more interesting stats:

* An inexperienced Wheels tester rolled one onto its roof in what was not a particularly fast corner
* The 80-110 km/h time they recorded was 30+ seconds
* It was essentially a typical 3rd world facelifted olde worlde Fiat (126 in this case) - no one remembered that the Fiat 126 was hopelessly outclassed by the front-drive BMC Mini and others even back in the '70s.
* The Bugs Bunny Show with Sophie Lee gave one away as a prize in the early to mid '90s. It amuses me that it was considered desirable at that time.

No comparisons with Falcons please... if judged relative to other offerings of the same era, this without doubt is the worst car to ever set foot on Australian roads.

On another note i'd love to see the mechanics face when you go in for a wheel alignment.
So its got one steering wheel for the front and one for the back wheels right ?

Are you saying a rear axle was optional?

Sorry I just want to clear this up... The gearbox was only synchro in 2nd, 3rd and 4th, not 1st... Well that was the case witht he 89 model I had, and my top speed was 114kms... It also has a max weight limit of 120kg, so when I had me and 4 of may mates in the car we couldn't get over 60ks.

I would love to have 1 of these cars again... It was my first car, and I wish I never sold it... Any1 seen 1 4 sale???

Cool I used to drive it for a month

I'm from Poland and I used to drive it for a month.
The engine in mine must have been dodgy as the fuel consumption was 10ltr/100km. For a car with ~20 horse power it was BAD
