Which alloys? The Turbo blades? If so, then yes you can polish them. It's been done by at least a few members of the club.

Nah, they look like the 5 spoke rims off the Falcon S. They are a good design. My parents have them on their EBII wagon, and they make my turbo blades look crap (because they are!). I'm sure the XRs used the same design but polished, so there should be a way to polish them. Don't ask me how!

hit the rims with paint stripper to remove the clear
Start building some big arms with wet+dry sand paper then get into it with autosol
