Default Falcon brake problems

Had a 2001 AUII Futura - brakes started shuddering after about 90,000km. Had them skimmed..still problematic...skimmed more meat off the discs...no problems since (now done 150,000km; wife drives it).

Now got a 2004 BA Fairmont Ghia - brakes shuddering at 70,000km, had them skimmed, but still not quite right.

Ford service agent: The disc rotors are a bit too soft, so can wear unevenly over time causing the shudder. Newer models don't have this issue???

Requesting some advice about what to do next...do I replace with aftermarket rotors to fix this?

Apologies in advance if this has been discussed at length before; I tried to search the forum first, but could not find anything quickly and easily.

Cheers

The B series Falcon section can be found here. That aside, fixing up your brake problem shouldn't be any different from the AU. Picking up a set of aftermarket rotors won't do any harm especially if you're getting nowhere with the factory ones.

Check with one of the forum sponsors in your area for suggestions.

I'm running BA factory ones on my AU and I don't have any probs, same can't be said for everyone tho.

Thanks guys,
I guess it's too much to expect the Ford agent to take extra time to make sure the hub faces are properly cleaned and true before fitting the rotors after skimming????

I stand to be corrected, or pleasantly surprised!

It is a common problem with the BA factory (soft) rotors and generally will come back after a machine. The best bet is to buy aftermarket rotors and replace your existing ones.

And replace them with at least slotted rotors as well to reduce heat build-up and hot-spotting on the rotor face too. The advantages are better braking and longer rotor life.

I dunno what the problem is with the Falcon rotors though ... they got it right in the Territory. Have done 100,000km and the pads are only 50% worn ... and there's no warping with the rotors at all ... and this is still the factory fitted pads and rotors.

Any recommendations on which aftermarket (ventilated) rotors to fit?

What should I expect to pay?
