Hey guys I really need some help. Mates AU had some slip in reverse when I drove it. Not a lot. Next day got worse. Now he has had to rebuild box for 2g and replace radiator for another g. Guy doing work said it should have thrown a warning on dash for overheating. Do Fords need tech reset for things like this? Would such a warning have stayed?
Would really appreciate some help |

It will just show up when the error codes are scanned, but I doubt many people do that very often anyway once the car is out of warranty.

If he's willing to spend a grand on a radiator you can get a PWR aluminium one for $900.

I would shop around, every major city you can get a fully rebuilt trans and radiator replaced for WAY under 2K - just like pursuit-250 said.

Cool but what I wanted to know was, if it threw a warning light, would it have stayed until reset?
Thanks for the replies |

It shouldnt have. It will just come up as an error code when checked at a Ford dealer.

You will find that NO WARNING light came on, but if you scan it a Fault code will come up sometimes. It will just store the code, in memory but will not effect anything. if you get a chance to clear it do it, if not don't sweat about it. There is also the possibility that the code could have been there before this problem occurred, the scan tool wont tell you that. I was towing a very heavy load (Boat &Trailer) in my dads BA wagon a couple of weeks ago, had no tranny cooler as i had not had a chance to fit one, i got the auto very HOT to the point where it threw oil out the breather . We let it cool down for 30 min's and of we went again, all ok. I serviced it and fitted a tranny cooler to it, checked for codes and NOTHING. cheers Mick. |

definitely no limp home mode at any time. only sign of drama was a little slip going into reverse once, but put that down to low fluid. its got over 200k kms on it and only been serviced once.

200k, serviced once!? No wonder it's rooted! Talk about a sad lack of maintenance... How long does he leave it before changing the engine oil? 40,000km? : .. I digress...
Certainly by no means your fault in the slightest... It couldn't be. |

It will fail regardless of whos driving if its only ever been serviced once in 200 000 k's. Tell your mate to grow up.
