Hi All
I was thinkin about replacing my rear shocks on my AU S1 Fairmont Ghia with IRS. I have a LPG tank so the extra weight might of killed the shocks abit??? Just wondering what all of you out there have on your cars???? Whats good & whats not???? Cheers |

I've got KYB Excel G on front and rear. Mine is not an IRS, but I can say that these shocks are very good for the cost. They are not much firmer than the stock Ford Monroe shocks in compression, but are a heck of a lot better in rebound control and feel like they tie the car down a lot better.
Check the sales section cos I thought I saw someone selling a set for an IRS AU recently...

BOGE short throw shocks at the front
BOGE rear shocks. BOGE are good bang for ya buck. They have been used on cars like Audi and Mercedes Benz from what I know of too.

Yeah
I believe i've got pedders lowered springs all round as I was able to still read the code tag which were still on the springs... but have no idea what sort of shocks I'm running??? I remember pedders sports gas shocks used to be quite good but I've heard monroe's are a hell of alot better these days!!! KYB's are pretty good value too... Cheers |

Got Boges on mine and am very happy with the ride comfort, height and handling and I'll agree that they are good value for money

I believe, Monroe GTs. Or whatever they're called. + King Springs 2" drop.. the basic package. But I think it handles really well. I enjoy it.

Springs carry the weight of the car, shocks simply control the springs (it's quite a bit more complicated than that, but that's the general idea). If fitting heavier duty springs, then sometimes a heavy duty shock to match is a good idea anyway. The Koni yellows mentioned in the first post are the bees knees, with Koni reds also very good. Bilstein are as good as the Koni yellows. Monroe, KYB, Ultima, Gabriel, Boge, are all fairly similar cheapish shocks and not in the same class as the either Konis or the Bilsteins. You get what you pay for.

Agree with Sox on getting what you pay for. But it also depends on your own personal expectations.

Amen to Koni's, S3 XR6 VCT IRS manual best thing I've done so far! and got my Koni's of eBay $ 600.00 all 4 corners delivered to my door brand new from "Proven Suspensions" in Albury, rides so much better than the stock ones still firm around corners but over the small bumps you just don't feel a thing. :
