Default Fake brake lights?

Hey all,

I recently removed the spoiler on my S1 xr6 only to realise that the parcel shelf brake light doesn't work... I had a peek under the parcel shelf and there appears to be a wire for the brake, well i assume it's for the brake light... I had a close look through the back window and it actually looks as if there is no light inside the housing at all... I've noticed some other AU falcons driving around and their parcel shelf brake light doesn't light up either... Anyone know if this is common/normal and how i can make it work?

Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure the housing is left empty from factory on cars fitted with a factory spoiler.

Thought so. Thanks RG. Where would i be able to source a light that works? Are any other models compatible with the AU?

Any AU that didn't have a boot spoiler. Go to a wrecker and rip one from a Forte or a mont.

i understand its illegal to have both a rear spoiler brake light and rear window brake light work the same time.

however, cant comment on whether brake light in there ar not....would have to go check mine out

Correct. It is also illegal not to have the middle brake light.

Any model that came with a spoiler from factory will only have the spoiler light, and just a black plastic casing instead of the brake light. If you got a dealer fit spoiler, or aftermarket, they generally keep the brake light in the window, but remove the globe.

Why would that be illegal, wouldn't it be better if you have more brake lights on and working so people can see you better in all conditions?

I don't make the ADRs, I just follow them (most of the time).

From my work knowledge of ADRs they may deem it as too much light. As the spoiler also slightly obscures the window mounted brakelight it would also be illegal - all warning lights must be clear and unobstructed for a certain angle around them.

I'd dare say it has something to do with a ute being classed as a commercial vehicle. Why that makes a difference I don't know however.

Thanks for the advice guys. I wasn't aware of the all legalities! I took some time out today and pulled the parcel shelf out to get to the brake light. My assumptions were correct, there is no light but there is a bulb holder and it's all wired up and good to go. However, the plastic lens (that should be red) is black plastic and not the slightest bit transparent! So all i have to do is source a red lens and a bulb!
Thanks again.

Hey guys i have a good reason why they dont, the rear windscreen brake light reflects off the spoiler at night. I know this as i was driving my old mans BA Fairmont 2 nights ago. I am now going to remove the bulb.
