Hi guys, I'm a newbie,......excellent forum you all got here.
Although it's probally been posted before, can anyone help me on the following? I have a EBII Fairmont Ghia 5.0 ltr with auto trans, owned it since new. The motor has bearing knock ( Have renewed the oil etc) and is getting on. Recently I purchased a AU XR8 motor and trans ( 220 kw) complete with the EEC V ECU and loom. Can I use the XR8 running gear and still hook up the EEC IV ECU or would I have to use the EEC V ECU and try to splice it into the existing EBII looms. cheers - Tony |

hi tony, welcome to the forums.
and from wellington too, woohoo! lol (my old stomping ground ) i have an ef 5.0 (same motor as your eb ghia) and i bought an AU2 XR8 motor for it. i fitted it using the ef distributor so i didnt have to use all the au looms and coil packs. thats what i'd reccomend. its makes it so much easier. keep us posted witth your progress ;) Phil |

Yep, just pull the EB donk out and slap the AU one in with the dizzy and all EB sensors. Same block, just heads, cam, intake and stuff like that is different.

Just to add to whats been said above, as long as you use the injectors, and maf from your old 5l there will be no drama's running the au engine.

Thanks for that guys...................what are your thoughts on swapping over the transmission as well, would I be able to hook up the EB plugs etc to the AU trans?

should be the same trans and plugs. eb and ef trans are the same (the ribs on the housing look a bit different but everything else is the same) and as far as i know the au uses the same trans
