Hey,
Now if there is a thread already with this info in it, please show me the link but i couldn't find it using the search function. Now, Today I bought the last of the parts needed for my new engine.. What needs to be done to fit the AU engine? Theres a clearance problem on the sump? My AU sump has a crack in it, so it'll be welded any way so we can just cut and re-do the sump instead of cutting the cross member? Where exactly is the clearance problem? And also, Do I have to Convert to serpentine and run thermos or can I stay clutch fan stylez? Also is there any thing else i should know before fitting the AU engine? it will have a EB2 T5 behind it, is that ok? And also The EB head will be going on it. Thanks Toby

gday mate, i'm going the exact same conversion at the moment but im putting an AU motor in an EA.
I found this link very helpful. http://www.fordforums.com/showthread...+EA+conversion Yes there is a clearance problem with the sump, it's right at the front. You can either cut the crossmember and move it foward an inch which is easy to to, but it's even easier to grind the ribs off the front of the sump. From what I've read, the lower bolts on the EB T5 bellhousing will not line up with the AU motor but it's no big deal. I can't confirm this as I haven't bolted my trans up yet but I can check tomorrow for you. Also you don't have to convert to serpentine belts if you don't want to. If you keep the clutch fan it will require a fair few mods to the motor to get it all to fit but it's possible. You'll have to grind down the timing case to fit the A/C pully, grind a tab off the sump and drill and tap a hole in the block to fit the alternator bracket, change the waterpump, grind the front of the sump where the two bolts are so the balancer fits and grind the A/C compressor mounting points on the block so the A/C bracket sits flush. Sounds like a lot of work but it's much cheaper in the end though If you need any help I took heaps of pics when I did the conversion so just let me know if u get stuck. |
