Default heat resistant material on intake pipe

Since fitting my heat shield, I have enjoyed lower engine bay temperatures and the car seems a bit more responsive after long drives.

What I would like to do though is improve the intake temperatures a bit more. There is a lot of radiant heat coming off the engine that tends to get absorbed by my stainless steel 3" intake. It does get quite hot.

Ive been reading some info on past threads, and other forums about what I can do.

Suggestions such as 'stick on heat shield' material to heat resistant paint options.

What I would like to know is what would be best to reduce intake temperatures and whats the neatest?

Im leaning towards spray painting the intake with the VHT flameproof heat resistant paint. It will take the longest to prepare but will look the neatest. The other option is to go a stick on heat shield, but wont look as good but will be quicker to fit.

Any thoughts on this idea or any other alternatives you could offer?

How would you go getting it HP coated ? they do extractors for around $200 so pipe you would think shouldn't be that much, or you would hope so

Thanks Whoosha. I might look into that. What I want is for the radiant heat & heat soak to keep out and the cool air to stay cool. Would HPC coatings do this for me?

Dunno but I'm pretty sure rattle-can VHT won't

Heat wrap tape that is used on extractors.

HPC coating the intake pipe.

Paint or powder coat the pipe white.

Bastardise a fridge and build your own fridge around your intake pipe. Ala Stav style

Build your own air intake cooling system using a small radiator, an electric water pump and piping wrapped around your intake pipe. Might be a bit excessive though.

I am thinking of re-routing my current air/pod filter and pipework thru the inner guard and to the back of the front bumper for cooler air flow. I think getting colder air, rather than sucking in engine air as it is now has got to be my first move. There is no point ceramic coating or insulating anything further until the air going into the engine is the coldest it can be.

Anyone agree or disagree?

I agree Shav. Issue would be there is not a lot of room in our inner guards due to the suspension and wheels unless you entered the inner guard in front of these obstacles like the T3 did with their pod filter. Once inside the guard and in front of the suspension and wheel their is plenty of room to mount and route the placement of the intake and filter. Make the filter location rather accessible because you will be cleaning it regularly.

thanks chief. i am assuming the removal of the front bar is a must to make the easiest possible route for the pod?

does anyone have any pics of their pods fitted in behind their front bar?

um.. thanks lofty, no offence, but thats ugly :P

I really want my car to look stock with the bonnet down. Ive seen people put their pods behind the front bar before neatly. i would like to see how and where things were placed.

Front bar removal is not necessary though it will make it easier. If you can remove the passangers wheel, and plastic inner guard, a few screws and clips hold it in place, this is the minimum. From there running your intake wont be hard. With anything a little bit of patience will help you out.
