Question EA laggy after gasket change & other problems!

i done a headgasket change to my ghia last week, finally managed to get it driving and out of the garage today, but it seems to still have a few problems,

1st, the injectors have to be in exactly the right position to get it idling right

2nd, once you accelerate it makes a "putt putt putt" sound then starts to rev up

3rd, 0nce on the road, it really lags and idles rough, and once i accelerate still makes the "putt putt putt" sound before it starts moving

4th, the exhaust, when the cars in park & idling, has a stop in it's blow, it sort of blows then stops then blows then stops etc... making a "putt putt putt" sound again (i checked this on the ED and the ED's exhaust blows constantly)

and, when the head gasket was blown the car was blowing water out the exhaust and still does if i rev it a bit or it's on my drive way (on an angle)

so i've sort of run out of ideas on whats up with it..., any one got any ideas on what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Timing is out. When I did the head gasket on my EA i setup the timing per timing marks as normal. Turns out my balancer had slipped. I had to then find TDC myself with a coathanger down number 1 plug, mark that with a paint pen, and go from there. Was all good after that...a 1.6L auto laser flogged me off the lights prior to doing all this, so I know how slow it must feel

it also sounds like its misfiring. How are the leads, plugs and dizzy cap/rotor?

Yeah sounds like timing is out.. or it could even be missing as well? Umm no idea about turning injectors for it to idle right though that sounds weird

i bought a dizzy cap, and a set of leads when my wagon was playing up a and turned out i didnt need them so i just have them sitting around on the garage floor so might aswell chuck them in the ea, with sparky's anyone know what would be best for an ea on gas? or doesn't it matter?

nick told me to try it and it worked, apparently it was a common problem on this car once he had it, i thought i had it fixed aswell, untill i took it n the road:(

myght just aswell visit JR's and get some injectors, might be the seals or something that are gone (at least thats what my dad says)

If you have to rotate your injectors to get it idling right they are rooted. They should be firing a cone spray, obviously they aren't.

Youve got me worried now, my car spits a bit of water if i rev it.
From what ive heard thats a good thing, show its burning nicely.

How much water depends on what gases the engine is putting out. No two will be the same.

playing with injectors was only a suggestion as i figured not everything was perfect and clean wen it was bolted back together... i had a mate come around once, "nik man my cars idling like a prik"

i had a look and an injector plug come out lol

water is a byproduct of combustion. Depending on the batch of fuel will impact on the H2O quantity. LPG cars drip water something chronic.

Did you make sure the timing chain didnt skip a tooth on the cam gear, usually use two zip ties around the chain while on the gear. Were all the leads numbered, if not double check that there in the right order. The dizzy shouldn't be out, its not usually moved when doing the head, so unless you did move it i wouldnt change its position, but changing the cap and leads is fine. Thats a few things
Also if the oil is still creamy (has water in it) it can cause the lifters not pump up correctly, causing it to miss.
