Default First Focus with trans problem

Hi all

this is just a bit of useless info

Our workshop has the first focus(LR) with a major trans problem, all the other times its the Mazdas(same trans)
Broken band, and a few burnt clutches(due to band not doing its job).
this causes the loss of 2nd and 4th.
it will stay in 1st unless you rev it right out then it will change into 3rd.

I rekon the froggies had their hand in designing these cars, what a mess of hoses, wiring and odd bolt sizes just like the Peugeot!!!

I have read about problems in the american model though -missing gears and slipping in 1st/2nd?? caused by the torque??
apparently the stock 4F27E is good for 180hp or so before you need to upgrade with either a tune or Lentech valvebody to firm up gear shifts.

Ive done a bit of research after noticing subtle changes in my auto over time, namely over-revving in 1st and then a lumpy change into 2nd.
Not caused by 180+hp though
Am thinking to change the oil/filter first and see if that helps.
What would an Auto.tech. recommend?

do you service the trans every year?
does it feel like it holds 1st for to long then a lumpy change into second, does it do it regular or a bit intermittent?

Do you also find there is a problem with the 3-4 shift
Then it could be the band apply servo wearing out

Give it a service, maybe put trans conditioner in it

Had a chuckle about the service!! Ford reccomend a fluid change at 60 000km service -but only if under "severe duty conditions"!! at 82 000kms it still has factory seal on the sump! trans oil seems ok though? -has a reddish tint and isnt dark or gritty?
My G/f and I bought the car a year ago and have only done 5000kms, its just started recently and like you say it holds first for to long then drops to second with a jolt. Only every now and then but especially when taking off at half throttle, like through an intersection or around a roundabout.
Just seems reluctant to change into 2nd, no worries with 3rd or 4th

Will change oil/filter and like you suggest add a conditioning treatment.
Have been warned about flushing an older transmission, even more so if its never been touched so will see how a fluid change goes first.

Thanks again!
