My 2001 Fairmont Ghia has the Inline 6 VCT engine (Tickford badged), was this engine designed to run LPG with out the neeed for additives? Three years ago I put it on LPG. I realise the importance re seals and fuel pump to run petrol every so often, but can this engine run LPG without fear of valve etc damage.

Yes, the hundreds of silver service cabs that ran around australia between 1998 and 2008 can't be wrong. The VCT motor is really no different to the regular I6 in terms of LPG operation. GasOLane also has his barge on gas too.

Certainly do... Fitted at about 85,000k's it now has about 150,000.
Bugger. I never did take it back for it's first service!.... Come to think of it I don't think it's ever been serviced

I was having a few little issues with my mine(backfiring, sluggish), the ford guy said that the AU engines weren't made for LPG, but the XR6 would be the best one to run the stuff

^^ well think he meant they didn't make an LPG engine, and so the petrol one has to be converted, by getting the mixer into the intake pipe it has to be cut and stuff.

still bs..
if you service things like leads, plugs and coil packs it shouln't backfire... also air filters.. a properly tuned and serviced car won't backfire unless there's a major problem...

(starting to steal this thread) ive had all the sparkplugs, and leads changed, and tuned, and had the sytem tested. what fixed my backfiring was getting my exhuast system put on it, only back fired once in half a year since getting that done. it's still has a "spongy" feel to it, runs better on petrol

If you're running a mixer setup it'll always feel more responsive on petrol but if the ignition system is in good nick and the plug gap is set correctly for LPG then you shouldn't get any backfires at all short of putting your foot down while starting the engine, which we all know is something you don't do.

It actually starts brilliantly on Gas, petrol takes a bit more cranking

When we bought ours the local Ford service manager said that he wouldn't recommend Gas, but only because of the Traction Control problem.
