ok so au1 xr6hp
auto 268,000kms have started hearing a noise from the front of the car when turning the wheel right, this only occurs when the car is moving, increases with speed only NOT rpm, also the more the car turns the louder the noise is and can feel some kinda vibration through the wheel and pedals when the noise is heard i have NO idea i originally thought it was p/s pump low fluid but that is fine and only doing it turning right cancels that out, then i thought the r/h wheel bearing as the noise is more on the right of the car changed that, noise still there. any one with ideas since it only happens when moving at any speed can i discount the rack and ball joints along with tie rod ends? or not cheers Frank

New rack Cost me 220 exchange. If bearings have been done already, then this is probably the cause-if not due for a change at 260,000 anyways me thinks.
If its ball joints-get done same time, either way both need replacing if they havent been already. 260,000 is good work for stock items.

mm having abs = no chance of flat spots also the fact the tyres have not had that type of abuse and the pressures are good as well and flat spots would cause a huge vibration through the steering ( similar to unbalanced tyres )wheel which i dont have might do the left hand wheel bearing as i only did the right . . . 220 for a rack aint bad at all could do that at home easy just the lower ball joints need doing correct? easy to do at home? any one else with ideas? cheers

I meant tire flat spots from shock wear wheel alignment and ball joint on the right side .

Had a similar problem after getting my tyres change. The boys at the tyre place didnt do my wheel nuts up tight enough and they came loose...

If one ball joint or bearing went, I'd replace both. Also, if you haven't had a full transmission flush for a while, I'd be doing that also. All the best with it. GK
