Question EB Fairmont Ghia or EF GLi manual wagon

Hi guys.

I'm in a position to purchase either a 92 EB Fairmont Ghia or a 95 EF GLi wagon for the same price, but its difficult to decide so im looking for your opinion.

I want a manual, which the EF has, making it quite rare but it doesnt have the equipment over the EB. I know the EF would be better mechanically but it needs a couple of hundred spent on the brakes to get a warrant of fitness before it can be put on the road.

If I got the EB maybe a manual conversion could be done at a later date because i dont have much to spend at the moment. How hard would this be to do? Any idea of the cost?

Id be getting the EB because of the equipment, its tidy, and it doesnt need work done. Id get the EF for the rare manual, its a bargain for an EF.

What do you reckon i should get? Give me your opinion.

Thanks for your help.

EF.. The wagons seem to hold a better resale than their sedan brothers and as you say, you have a rare one with the 5 speed fit out

If your only reason for wanting the wagon is the manual then get the EB.

What are the klms on each?

I'd be looking at wear and possible more $$$.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

The EF has 180,000ks. The EB has 268,000ks.

The EF requires a bit of work on the brakes which may cost a bit and also a wing mirror to be reattatched. Other wise its in very tidy condition, is charcoal with alloys etc.

Ef for sure eh!

the kms are a lot better, and with a bit o nthe brakes you'll have a pretty sweet car - plus, the EF interiors (IMO) are a lot more modern looking than the EA-ED's - even though they're 10 years old, they still looks pretty classy! :P

Go the EF. Manual wagons are rare, and with the lower kays, there should be less wrong with it. One thing I have to point out as well, the extra equipment on the Ghia is great, but gives more potential for problems. eg. power windows can be a problem, I know from experience! Anyway, while it is perfectly possible to fit a manual to the EB, it's just as possible to fit a Fairmont interior to the wagon, even though it takes a fair bit of mucking around, especially with the electrical side of it.

EF wagon :P

Then just fill it with Ebay goodies (clock, luxo seats & doorskins, electric window conversion, etc)

Price & KMs make the EF sound like a better buy.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Ive been thinking about it long and hard all day and I think i will go with the EF.
Like my parents old EF it doesnt have air con, the aircon doesnt work in my current car, so ill just keep putting the windows down i suppose. And having no power windows doesnt worry me, i agree with you ea silver ghia, ive had my share of bad experiences with power windows too, the ones on my car especially.
It would be good to have another EF wagon, I remember it was such a shame when the lease was up on my parents one, that was a damn good car, never gave us any trouble.
If i get it i wont have much money to pour into mods for a while but id start by lowering it, tints, EL taillights (clear indicators), clear side repeaters. Maybe throw a EL XR front bar on (like yours uglybob) then move into the engine bay.
