Default steering column problem

getting a roadworthy for the ea was told I had a problem in the steering when the wheels where off the ground need to know has anybody had the same prob and how can i fix it I have already removed the wheel and lubricated the top bearing is there a second I need to lube?

exactly what problem do you have,,lubeing this and that won't do .
i would say one of the following:

1 ball joint/s
2 tie rod end/s

all if found faulty need to be replaced...

the problem is in the column all the ball joints and tie rods where checked for the roadworthy. The mechanic told me it was in the column so I was wondering if anybody else had problem with the steering column

is it a bearing in the column ? is the thing loose, is not steering the car,,theres not much that can go wrong with the things,,is something not working properly,,we need to know what the problem is,just saying it's the column is not very helpfull.

sounds to me you are probably trying to describe a faulty column bearing issue. When under load you cannot feel any problem but when under no load (wheels of the ground) it is probably a little grabby??? If the column is at fault then I would say just go and get a replacement one from the wreckers as it would be a very quick fix.... If I am wrong then I still say replace the column with a known good one from a wreckers and not bother stuffing around trying to find the fault.

eav8 thats what i was leaning to,,it's easier to just replace the whole thing than stuff around with it..see how ya go any way

cheers guys That is what i was asking about the column i need rust repair section for the boot to so i might just buy a junker to strip for parts.

well your first question was a bt ambiguous,,could of been aking is the pope roman catholic,,but yeah just replace it,,better than trying to stuff around with it.

i had a problem like that in my series 1 eb the steering wheel felt loose like the whole coloum would move up and down and left to right bout .5cm each way, ahh i didnt fix it just sold it, much easier!!!!!
