I have just converted my car to manual and I am just having some concerns about the ECU. At the moment its a AUTO EDXR6 ECU and seems to be running fine. Would I get better performance if I just left this ECU or would I get better performance if I put in a MANUAL XG ECU.
Another thing is that im on a gas research system so again this might mean something as the performance is controled by the gas research and not so much by the ecu. I personally think a manual ECU might give me better performance for this reason, even thought its only from a XG UTE. |

haha i put a manual xg xr6 ecu in my ED when i did the conversion. felt exactly the same. though id stay with what you got cos its tickford and i dunno if the ecu has anything to do with the gas system on there.

i came across an ED XR6 Manual ECU on ebay not long ago...
can't find it now perhaps it ended... it sounds logical that a manual ecu would be better otherwise why wouldn't they just use the same one for both transmission types? maybe they do and just say its different  :

Considering that everyone is second geusing. Does anyone know exactly what makes an auto ECU different to a manual ECU?

The fuel and/or timing maps on the manual ecus are slightly different, manual cars with auto ecu's have been known to have idle problems where the idle hunts up and down.

well considering his car is running straight gas research i dont think fuel matters as there are no injectors operating ;)

how does the gas get into the engine then, mine is duel fuel and the gas goes in via injectors i think

As far as the transmission itself is concerned, I don't think it would bother the computer if the transmission was not there, as such.
I am %99 percent sure that the ECU's have different part numbers. Check the factory manual, they have all the ECUs and part numbers listed.

different fuel maps, as there are different amount of gears auto vs manual
and becuase he is running gas. i honestly dont think it will matter that much, as gas does not need a fuel map.

thanks everyone but I'll havfe to agree with niko. Grechie let me borrow his manual EBII ECU and I honestly did not notice anything different. I think I'll just keep it unless i can get a good sale on it and therefore I'll just put a standard manual one in.
