^ You idiot.

I'd have to say converting from auto to manual.

Then cam and exhaust.

Then diff if it's substantially shorter.

Then chip and headwork.

LSD??

I can't edit polls. :(

But strictly speaking manual transmissions add bugger all power. Performance is another matter. LSD adds a big fat zero rwkw. ;)

Truth is you're better off doing a package - full exhaust/extractors/cam, rather than one or the other. And if it had to be just one, it would probably be exhaust.

As Trouty said, LSD will add no power at all. This is simply a different type of differential (rear axle) which allows both wheels to spin instead of just one, nothing to do with engine at all.

From my experience, a 2.5in Mandrel bent exhaust with a nice set of extractors gives a good noticable gain up in the top end of the rev range.

I have had success with Pacemaker tri y's.

A Cam would also be a good mod. It gave me about the same amount of extra power as the exhaust system.

Exhaust/Extractors/Cam should cost you no more than $850 fitted.

yeah I think you go speed and power mixed up. Shorter gears and LSD will give you a fair bit off a difference!

well talking about one specific thing... then an aftermarket cam is the best power adder for n/a e-series 6cylinder.

but usually this will work much better with exhaust/intake mods, headwork, etc. but can still see good gains with a cam change alone and no other mods

Best mod I think then would be NOS. Cheap and big power gains!

DIY Turbo buy a kit bolt it on and if you do as good a job as Evilelf's car you will have good power.

I must admit, for a turboshaft instalation in not an overly large car, its pretty tidy.

I'd fit two LSD's for twice the power increase..... :

I wouldn't waste my time with one. No one mod will help. However if I was restricted, I would do exhaust.

forget the power mods, go for a driveablity mod.. Change the diff gears.. For example a stocker with 3.9s will eat a modded car with 3.08s

Power at the flywheel, you are right but at the back wheels you'll pick up between
8-12kw...

Before you go unbolting what you have got, make it breath better. It's easier, cheaper and there is a bunch of things you can do before you touch a headstud or engine mount.

Once it breaths and your still not happy then you can unbolt and modifiy the head, pistons whatever.

I have a mate who bought a clean HX ute with a 253 that breathed. Had carb, inlet manifold, exhaust, cam, injected heads. When he got it dyno'd to fine tune the carby the operator thought it was a 308 by the figures it was putting out. He He - It stopping my mate talking about buying a 308 to put in it pretty quick....well that at unleaded going to $1.20 a litre.......

Intake manifold and extractors would be the 2 best mods I've done to mine.
