Default ea needs a belting

g'day all.

I'm currently replacing the head gaskets and other gaskets on my ea cfi. now i've got the rocker cover, radiator and manifolds disconnected. I'm trying to set the timing mark to line up with TDC. In my instructions, it says to rotate the engine clockwise by hand by grabbing the belts but they won't budge no matter how hard i try. Does anyone know how to rotate the engine by hand? (and it is in neutral if that makes a difference).

you put a rachet and socket on the balancer bolt and turn it. By hand is just plain silly.

it's a 22 mm bolt so you know, Turn it clockwise and make sure it's on TDC on compression stroke. Pull out sparkie No1 and stick a finger in there till you feel air and that is compression stroke.

a 22mm socket from repco is less then $10 i recall when i had to get one.

k, i got the right sized socket but when i try to turn the crankshaft pulley, it just won't budge!

You sure you've got the cam timing correct? If you haven't it'll have pistons hitting valves. If thats not happening? You need more leverage. Like a big breaker bar for example.

Have you got the spark plugs out, makes it far easier to turn it over if like brenx said check there is nothing hitting.

sweet, i got a bit of a rocking motion on the wrench and that got it to turn and now i've got it all lined up. Thanks for the help. :
