backyard job respray

Hey guys i was thinking about respraying my XF Falcon the factory red colour, i just want to know what i need and whats involved. My friend is supplying me with an air compressor and spray gun, but i want to know what else i need also.

What kind of sand paper
Do i need primer/undercoat
Where i get the paint from and how to prepare it (thinners etc.)
Do i need to cook the panels after painting them

we will be getting an extra panel to do some trials on just to see if its possible for us to do.
