I was going to make one. It has to fit around sump, also I was going to use vents to increase airflow around sump and direct air past pipes and gearbox.

I didn't realise those covers were so weak! I've hit various objects, inanimate or otherwise (hehe), with it and it hasn't moved an inch.

But I'll keep my eye on this thread anyhoo ;)

G'day

I made up a small 3 ply test piece today out of carbon to test the peel ply out, test was successful. Have started finalising plans for the final product.

This will have to wait a few days as I am having a few Asthma related breathing problems (no, no, nothing to do with the resins or solvents!!!).

Will keep you posted over the coming week.

Oh, and there may be one other carbon fibre compnent that I may be offering to you all.......... Simple, yet effective..... (dont get your hopes up, its nothing at all fancy!!!!)

I like the idea if they were made I would buy one for my brothers ED and see if it fitted my EF if so I would then order another.

[Rollin]

i havent had one of those for ages - it broke, ford wanted 40 bucks for a new one, so i didnt bother.

may be interested in a carbon one...would DEFINATELY be interested in a carbon fibre bonnet though! drift car stylez with the massive air-removing vents in it...

Well, I'm back. Asthma is fixed, but computer is stuffed!!!! Which is why I havent been on for a week or so.

I have finished experimenting with the carbon fibre...... I'll be able to get stuck into it once I get the car back from the panel beaters (hole for intake manifold to sit through is being done this week).

So, Rollin would be interested in a Carbon fibre bonnet ay.....
That would set him back a pretty penny!!!! Atleast $250 - $300 in carbon cloth for that one!!!

We'll se what happens, I wouldnt want to get too far ahead of myself, I'll finish my current projects first.

$300 bucks in cloth is fine by me! trouble is i dont think its legal to have a carbon fibre bonnet at all :S

there are a few pics of nice bonnets in the latest drift battle, instead of making a whole bonnet, it might be easier to just cut a fair bit of the skin out of the middle of a metal bonnet and mould some big-*** vents into it...

Is working with carbon fibre hard ?
Is it just like working with fibreglass?
I am in the process of making a cold air intake for ef/l airbox am interested in using it as a mold for a carbon fibre intake.
Eventually will make an airbox out of fibreglass for ef/l so that might be a possibility too. Also if I get the time I might do something for my brothers ED.

Why couldn't you just remove the skin completely, just keeping the steel subframe.

Surely that wouldn't be illegal?

i dont know if its legal or not, but try unpicking all the spot welds on a bonnet and you will realise why i suggested cutting the middle out rather than taking it apart...

Just a quick post....

This project is still going ahead, just been running into a few problems (nothing to do with the part).

As soon as I get more time and get over my anger, ill get stuck into it again.

Same goes for the gauge pod.

For more info check out my other thread.

Keeping you posted, 5.8L - EBII
