Default 94' EF Fairmont with standard diff letting out dualies???

Well, anyway, I threw a burn out yesterday after noon and I locked up both left and right wheels. It felt like a locked diff, it was crazy. My mate and I just agreed it was luck, but we did another 2 and the same thing happened - I got two nice black marks.

So that was yesterday, and I haven't tried again today, but is my diff screwed? How can an LSD lockup on tar with ease?

If it stops doing lockers, is there anyway to encourge it? I heard something about tightening the LSD, but I dunno how it works or anything, or if it's even worth while.

Last thing I want is a welded up diff, even if I have spares, just because they're so voilent on the roads unless your hanging the *** out and pouncing the throttle.

Is my diff screwed? :P Normally it only throws the right wheel.

Might be on it's way out...I wouldn't complain though. Those diff's last for ages. If you want to encourage it, turn left when your trying to do a burnout

You say standard diff in the thread title but talk about LSD??
If it normally only leaves one wheel mark then it's a standard diff and your spider gears have welded up..

Uh.. from my past experiences, I believe the Fairmont had a single spinner (thus not LSD) and I think the issue is here it is LSD'ing when it shouldn't be.

My old EL Fairmont did it all the time, didn't really think much of it.

Now my new EL Fairmont Ghia does it because it should, and wooooooooo!

If both wheels have equal traction then it will spin both (actually you probably need a little more traction on the right wheel - because it recieves the power first)

Certainly not uncommon.

Ah ok, so the EF Fairmonts didn't have LSD?

But if I got both of mine to lockup, that means it was optioned with it? Or does it just mean my diff is rooted? :P

I have an EF Fairmont and in the wet both wheels will lock up if I plant the foot around a corner then its hang on.

In the wet and dry from a standing start if you just go in a straight line and plant the foot its a single spinner 3.23 just like normal.
