Talking EA auto go bye bye :D

I just cant believe it but the EA 4 speed is finally gone : : : :king:

Its been in the car since I got the car getting close to 2 years ago and no matter what the car was damn slow, most of the older members will know that :P. After last weeks horrid time of 17.1 again at heathcote I finally killed the auto to bits. Im sure it was a mixture of that and experiencing the LSD + Cam recently :P

Yesterday the auto was replaced with a nice (absolutely the cleanest auto ive seen that was factory in a car) 140,000thou EL2 auto that I purchased from ARM79 on FM. Spent a good afternoon with Fairmont_El taking the EL box out of the ghia, removing mine and then fitting the new one by 1:30am between a few incidents inbetween. But ill leave that up to John_xr6 to explain hehe

The car drives ALOT better, actually seems to have torque now and shifts amazingly smooth. Best $350 ive spent on that car in a while I believe.

One thing I have noticed and this is for you Camshaft guru's, since ive fitted the Wade 1636, i was told the power would come on early with that profile. Now the only thing is the power doesnt seem to come on till redline? If I was to floor it off the line in the wet, it wont wheelspin till it hits 4000rpm (say 50kph). Then it loose's traction. Would you say the power isnt comming on earlier enough? as the car is still a little slow on takeoff.

Please note the Fuel system and ignition system have both been replaced with all new parts and the motor is only a year old

(for the peeps who dont know what it is)
3.9 bottom end
EF head
Wade 1636 Cam
Pacy Extractors + 2.5" Mandrel bent
3:23 LSD
140 thou EL2 Auto

Thanks guys

hey D
Have you tryed advancing your timeing ?
I have the 1636 in 1 of my cays and it starts to pull from 2,000
But you dont feel it alot after 4,500 - 4,800 so i change at 4,500
I have advanced timing so it just pinged then backed it off just a twich
i would think with the car and setup you have you should be sitting next to a EF/EL

Cheers

the cam timings not out is it? Got a vernier gear? Not that they're really needed but maybe you should check all the cam marks etc and make sure they're all factory spec (like 3mm above head etc). I'd be puttin the whole motor on TDC and goin over everything. Good luck on breakin into the 16's :P :

Good stuff Mick, about time you got rid of that naughty BT-R. Glad you're happy with the newy, especially it's almost identical to mine. Did you have fun filling it with fluid?

with the EF head + 3.9 bottom end combo i'd be checking the cam timing... but try advancing your ignition timing first - its easier!

The cam timing currently is perfect with a stock cam gear. I was thinking I should order a Vernier gear for it since it really is kinda wierd. Took john_xr6 for a drive yesterday in the wet and he agree'd and a chuckle that its odd that it wont loose traction if you boot it untill 4500rpm and then starts kicking out.

But to really be "approved", you need a pic of John giving the thumbs up to your auto ;)

This is a common problem. The medical term for it is: Riceus-homo-erectus

Hahahahaha Touche ;).

Going to work to order a vernier gear today and then see if getting correct cam timing will bring the power on at the correct time.

well i dont know if its exactly the same thing but in my auto ea mont that as some of you know got put into a tree ( damn holden drivers :P ), i had a wade 1004 112 and it would seem to take forever to pick up off the line and then get to 3500 or so then have a bit of power to just over redline....
might be just a coincidence cause the only thing your car and that have in common is a 3.9 bottom end,
