I lent the brock to my mum today as she blew her engine in her xf panelvan to blazers yesterday. After pulling the engine in the xf down last night the real damage was shown....crankshaft snapped and punched a hole through the block 2 lifters have disappeared through a hole in the sump and a conrod is snapped and partly hanging through the side of the sump...luckly very little if any top end damage occurred.

Man, make sure that Brock car comes back undamaged!!! You'll be kicking the crap out of yourself (I'm sure others would help) if it don't!

so far so good they aint taken it far so i will be back in it to take em to the airport. once i have the xf engine fully stripped ill take some photos of the carnage to show you the exact remains of a perfectly good xf engine that had only done 65000 k's since it was installed as a reconditioned engine 2 years ago

I vote no oil too, those motors usually last forever, especially with most mothers driving.

full of oil and water. problem was a conrod snapped and caused a massive chain of events leading to the death of the motor and a lifter bent. serious mess for a mum driven car they say they heard a noise develop as they were leaving melbourne but kept pushing it then finnally 160k's down the road it let go.....not a bad effort i reckon to get 160k's outa an engine with a serious case of the death knocks happening

Conrods don't just snap in half all of a sudden! Especially in low revving 250ci's.
Check the bearings and journals and i'm fairly sure you'll find one black, blue and scarred. I'd say the cause is one has somehow starved of oil and the bearing has failed.... which causes them to seize and the rods don't like the crank moving while they stay stationary and snap real quick... leaving one seriously mangled pile of bits shortly after. |
