Default Fuel smell in cab

I have a NF fairlane ghia, 95, i have owned it for 6 years, and have had this problem the whole time... when the fuel tank drops below 1/2 a tank the cab of the car starts smelling of fuel, its not exhaust omissions, its straight up fuel, i have changed the cap 4 times, no difference, the only thing that eases it is pulling over and releasing the cap letting out the pressure, or, fill it back up. Ford in Brisbane looked at it when i first bought it, i took it back to them at least 3 times, the last time they had it for 5 days, claiming to have replaced all the fuel lines, pump, purge equip, and anything else they thought might be causing it, they smoke tested it and gave it back to me saying they couldnt find a problem, so 5.5 years later, i still have the problem, i love the car, if only i could get this sorted. :

check all thje lines going to the tank, one could be loose and under pressure be letting out fumes, check the pickup pump ones aswell, if that fails, replace the tank, put all new hose clamps on the hoses, and change any seals applicable.

Hi WRP11, My NF has/had the same problem.
I can tell you what it isn't. I replaced the petrol pump when it failed, (stranding me at my inlaws place), but this did not fix the smell. I replaced the fuel filter, no fix. I've checked the carbon canister, pretty sure this is not it. I've cleaned the MAF, and the EGR valve, not fixed.
I recently changed the radiator, because of a clogged transmission cooler, this was making the auto overheat, this could easily smell in the cabin, jury's still out on this one.
As far as fuel goes, I find Optimax to be variable in quality, Caltex Vertex is fine, BP seems ok to.
Is yours a 6 or 8?
Regards, Ray.
